I would love to see that happen and think it would do really well but just don't think BA are interested in Belfast.

Although it is not their current fleet the sudden availability of lots of Flybe Dash 8 aircraft pilots and crew would provide a real opportunity for BA Cityflyer to expand at London City.

Eastern might try it - they’re about to launch MME so a bigger thicker route like BHD would be wise for them

Think it will be another airline
Stobart or Cityjet.
The impact of last week and the reality of job losses has help to highlight the importance of regional flying.. so we could be surprised. But it won't be old yellow beard

It's looking like Easterns focus will be on Southampton.

Apron construction.

As a matter of curiosity, what is that hideous white building they have constructed right in front of the departure lounge obstructing my view of the runway movements?

It is a temporary baggage processing facility. The old stands 1 and 2 are no longer in use.

You could say the same about BA at Heathrow.

The "all eggs in one basket" works both ways. BA Cityflyer would likewise be stuffed if LCY ever started to get difficult over things.

Isn't BA pretty much a slam dunk for BHD, assuming that the route is, as almost anybody suggests, is a viable business case? Stobart operated the route on behalf of Flybe - and before that, Stobart operated the E90 on behalf of BACF from LCY to other destinations, so a well known ACMI supplier for BACF with crew and aircraft waiting for the next customer.

BHD has had a poor history from various operators at LCY in the past. There was a first iteration by Flybe (possibly they were British European then), and the Scot/Cityjet operation, both of which ceased before Flybe came back. There's not a lot of finance/media/IT industry, LCY's staples, in Belfast to tap into. Flybe did seem to have got to grips with it, and as described had moved it on from a Dash 8 to a contracted E90. BA are the only operator with current commercial and operational ties at both ends. But in the present situation I can't see any new route being started at all before things settle down.

IIRC, BE operated the route with a Q200 the first time around (and also stopped en-route at IOM?), so quite a different product. At that time, BHD-LGW was also massive. Will be interesting to see if BACF will go for it.

I was actually a semi-regular through all these periods; I recall the standard BE Dash 8, and also flights on their 146, but not stopping at IOM; there have been a range of arrangements over time.

I do recall returning from BHD on the small Dash 8 when a colleague was coming back on BMI to Heathrow on a 320. We made consecutive departures from Belfast, and I droned along in the Dash. Straight in to LCY, Gate 2, straight out, got a cab to 10 minutes down the road, walked in, phoned colleague - who said they were only just taxying in to stand at Heathrow after n times round Bovingdon and a huge loop which actually passed over LCY at 5,000 feet.

at some point there definitely was a stop on the IOM for the LCY route.

BA are suspending LCY-JFK until July. I wonder if this will be the end of this service or at least with an A318?

I fly the route generally once per month when it runs and generally, it's always been a pretty quiet flight and reward availability is normally quite high too.

The A220-100 did a test flight with an interior the equivalent of 40 business class seats and passengers and managed it non stop.

I understand the issue about the A220 is that it does not fit the main stands 1-11, only the newer 21-24, and of course the ones being built. The Embraer, current and new, fits them all, as at present. As BA are far and away the majority operator, it seems it just won't work for a fleet replacement of the E190.
