Yes buster, but they are not stupid enough to sign up to Boeing GoldCare for their maintenance requirements.

Where would FR get the slots from? VS's withdrawal alone won't be enough to cover a base that size, and BA/IAG seem intent on holding onto their slot portfolio at LGW.

Ryanair will often talk airframes in terms of capacity. It wouldn't neccessarily mean 15 aircraft based, though that may become possible depending on the extent of cuts by other operators. They could make quite a big operation viable with a fairly small number of based aircraft and utilise a significant volume of non-based aircraft, if the appetite was there.

Is Gatwick struggling to recover more so than other airports such as Luton, Stansted and Manchester? 36 flight departures today from LGW. 64 at LTN (predominantly Wizz). 74 at STN (predominantly FR).

No immediate sign of expansion from Wizz or Ryanair at Gatters. Seems Wizz is propping up Luton and Ryanair is propping up Stansted to a larger extent than easyJet is doing at Gatwick. Eurocontrol data also shows easyjet lagging behind both Wizz and Ryanair at volume of flights - why is easy so slow to ramp up?

The immediate risk to Gatwick in comparison to other London airports was picked up some time back including from myself. A toxic mix of having a greater number of carriers prone to wanting to be at LHR, complete or substantial loss of BA and Virgin and severe financial hardship of Norwegian. Add to that EZY being more cautious than others.

I was also ridiculed either in this thread or elsewhere for suggesting STN and it’s MAG backing was in a stronger position. For now that is starting to look true - STN has even added a couple of airlines in the last few weeks - but longer term who knows. Although planes are flying, how many are on them? Reports from other countries of very low loads. On that basis EZY’s caution may be a virtue.

I think people are worrying a bit too much. Different airlines have made a judgment call during the lockdown period on likely demand in the period post-lockdown, and how keen each airline is to fly versus a desire for flighs to be profitable. Easyjet are a more cautious airline compared to Wizzair/Ryanair, and this will be reflected in number of movements at LGW, LTN and STN respectively. Bravado is not always a good thing
Wait until maybe early September when things are a little more stable, airlines have a better understanding of consumer demand for travel, borders are more open and quarantine requirements are less strict

Has BA decided what they will do with their short-haul flights out of LGW? I saw on their timetable from Sept they're being moved back to LGW from LHR..Didn't they say they intend to pull out of LGW and focus on LHR?

At last... some good news!

BA to restart LGW operations next weekend. Initially long haul only with flights to Barbados, Bermuda, St Lucia, Kingston and Antigua commencing from 18th July onwards. The short haul programme has been cancelled for the summer, but will begin to shift back to LGW from September/October. Given that the South terminal is temporarily closed, I would guess that BA will be operating these from their old home in the North for now. I have to say that after the mountain of bad news LGW has been having recently, I am so pleased to see BA coming back, great news for passengers, ground staff and crew!

Any more news as to when we might expect to see other long haul airlines recommence ops out of LGW? CX had originally planned to reinstate the LGW-HKG route from early August, but I'm not sure if this is still going ahead/has been pushed back? (can't find any info on airlineroute). EK recommences to DXB from August, QR to DOH in October, CI are moving back to LGW from LHR in late October, CA to PVG in October.

I'm sorry of its been asked before, when will the South Terminal re-open. With airlines like WestJet & Air Transat starting and BAW & EZY increasing early August it will be getting a bit tight in the North Terminal. Could they manage on one Terminal until December when Norwegian long-haul return?

WOuld be surprised to see Transat or Westjet starting anytime soon, British aren’t allowed in and can’t see that changing imminently. Equally I can’t see much appetite for Canadians to come here.

Quite the u-turn if you ask me, I thought the original plan was for DY to resume long haul in April next year? Maybe advance bookings ex LGW have begun picking up again?
