Easyjet buys TCX slots at BHX

Hopefully all will be revealed soon but this is a really positive step !
The take-off and landing slots at Birmingham Airport of collapsed holiday firm Thomas Cook have been bought by EasyJet for an undisclosed amount. The budget airline has also bought slots at London Gatwick and Bristol, as well as Manchester and Stansted.Thomas Cook entered an insolvency process in September. This latest deal is the latest in a series of sell-offs of the former holiday giant’s business. In October, Hays Travel bought all 555 Thomas Cook retail outlets in a move which saved 2,500 jobs.Meanwhile, earlier this month, Fosun, the owner of Wolverhampton Wanderers bought Thomas Cook’s online and social media intellectual property

No, that info is inaccurate, EZY has brought BRS and LGW, Jet2 has brought MAN, BHX and STN

Modern commerce. Fat corporate types get in charge of venerable company and brand name.. load it with debt, take massive salary and bonus, bankrupt it ten years later .
other companies Hoover up valuable assets for next to nothing and shareholders get zip,

Quite possibly an error but usually a reliable source and very disappointing if incorrect. The article is dated today and whether they have a "scoop" or egg on their face remains to be seen.

Shame that my post 719 didn't get such a quick reply by anyone (didn't get any response )as to whether easyjet have applied for the Flybe BHX-AMS & BHX-CDG slots which are available at zero cost. I am very surprised that nobody on this forum has little or no information on this matter.

Sorry to disappoint... Definitely an error unless our CEO and Commercial director also don't know what EZY has bought and has not bought and also our internal news. EZY announced BRS and LGW purchases onFriday morning and Jet 2 announced STN BHX and MAN on friday afternoon

AMS & CDG

I would say no but not impossible to operate from the AMS/CDG bases - However the slots they were told to release were the Flybe ones not KL or AF ones.

The Amsterdam & CDG summer 19 times are below and although I would be surprised if they were interested in all 5/3 slot pairs, I am sure if they have any sense they would want the BHX first outbound on both CDG & AMS rather than work it from the CDG/AMS bases as they would have to negotiate with AMS/CDG to move the slots.

CDG would be terrible worked from the CDG base as AF don't overnight an aircraft in BHX like KLM and it would leave BHX without an early morning outbound and easyjet would have little problem mopping up on the BHX originating business pax even with a 156 seat aircraft.

07.05 BHX - AMS 09.20 then 10.15 AMS - 10.40 BHX
12.35 BHX - AMS 14.55 then 15.55 AMS - 16.15 BHX
15.00 BHX - AMS 17.20 then 18.05 AMS - 18.30 BHX
16.35 BHX - AMS 18.55 then 20.00 AMS - 20.20 BHX
18.20 BHX - AMS 20.40 then 21,25 AMS - 21.50 BHX

06.40 BHX - CDG 09.05 then 09.50 CDG - 10.15 BHX
11.35 BHX - CDG 14.00 then 14.50 CDG - 15.10 BHX
17.10 BHX - CDG 19.40 then 20.40 CDG - 21.00 BHX

Just curious, at some point where do we think the next EZY base will open in the UK?

Probably Birmingham then maybe Southampton, Leeds or Doncaster. I think I can guarantee that they won't be opening a base at Cardiff!

I'm afraid they aren't likely to open a base at BHX anytime soon either. Perhaps more routes on away based equipment is the best BHX can hope for.

There is not much evidence the EZY will open another base in UK at any point in the foreseeable future. Their most recent performance pronouncements indicate a baseline fleet growth of a little less than 10% (30 aircraft) in the coming five years, with progressive roll out of the EZY fleet of A319 (156 seats), replacing with A320 (186 seats), and A321 (235 seats). Most of the 321 are going into Gatwick. The company has also just purchased the Thomas Cook slots at Gatwick and Bristol, indicating further growth here. Remember that Jet2 picked up the TC slots at BHX, MAN and STN. This move by EZY in southern England, together with the larger aircraft means a substantial hike in capacity from existing bases is both preferred and planned. They are also working hard to improve operational resilience.. leading in part to a requirement for more spare aircraft capacity at existing bases (if there is space to park them) to better cover for the risk of lengthy delays and passenger compensation liability.

Likely outcome?...more flights from existing bases and larger aircraft, but not new bases, at least until the established plans are unable to deliver any further growth. That capacity crunch point is at least five years away in the UK for EZY, assuming no economic downturn. Jet2 on the other hand....

They well and truly missed the boat in BHX when monarch went under, I don't think you'll see BHX as a base in the next 10 years.

Easyjet have 2 A 321neo based in BRS now. They have been based nearly a month now. A fine looking aircraft as well in Easyjet colors.

Maybe they knew that Jet2 was already gunning for it at the starting gate at BHX? (57 destinations by Jet2)

They (EZY) have done well at BRS and SEN
