There was a lot of chatter that KL were moving to BFS to get a 0600 dep. Obviously not the case then

They've never really struggled to fill an aircraft so I don't see why they would. They'd have been at BFS from the beginning of that was the long term plan. There's a market for transfer flights via AMS and they hit a significant wave of them as they are plus a decent chunk of point to point business and leisure. IAG would gain literally nothing by moving operations in fact they would lose the current advantage they have in landing closer to Belfast than ezy/be, time is of the essence in business.

AGP and FAO not showing as available next Summer from BHD. Any idea when they might come available?

Mart901,

I don't think it's a clean cut case of saying;

'IAG would gain literally nothing by moving operations in fact they would lose the current advantage they have in landing closer to Belfast than ezy/be, time is of the essence in business'.

There are competing variables in this equation, take the 2130 curfew for example, this means potentially that there is one less rotation with an aircraft each day. That is a real fixed cost for aircraft related to the BHD operation, compare to EDI or GLA LHR routes for e.g.

Yes there is that issue of exposure to EZY and FR competing services, but you have to ask yourself, with the large IAG combined reduction from 10 daily to 7 daily, just how great is the BHD attraction over BFS? Not preferring either (though I admit using BHD is very pleasurable), what extent of transfer pax are using the route? MAN LHR was previously 75% and GLA/EDI 50%. If the level of transfer pax is so high , aside from KLMs token service, not much risk.

Bolt on to of that the contracts that EI and BA have with corporates, to me , such a move would not be high risk. Equally, given the steep charges at LHR, point to point pax will always find the other London airports significantly more economical anyway.

Not proposing to conclude such an arguement on here but this debate is far from proven, equally easyJet's assessment that 'there were no tangible benefits of using BHD', was far from a comprehensive study into the matter, given that Ryanair were then at BHD, and EI had just launched at BFS, so holding their loads under those circumstances was a good result. Obviously we can't ascertain impact to yield though equally we couldn't forsee what it might have been at BFS..

I would stand by the argument if KLM wanted a pre 06.30am run they'd be there, probably from day one. To think they'd go to BHD for the craic but with a longer term interest in being in BFS would be ludicrous, they could easily do two rotations where they are anyway. IAG have cut down because FR are flying 3x daily on the LON market and have had higher frequency than this - all that said having flown on a packed EZY service to STN recently at a random off peak time and seeing fares in September of 7 one way on FR and 30-50 one way on EZY despite the extra frequencies I'd debate how long FR will be in the Belfast - LON market.

Been away from here for a while, its a bit quiet! So it looks like the original post of KLM heading off to Antrim was just a spotters dream.

No rumours of any new routes at all? Everything still stagnant? No new awards won?

They are doing well at Cork and it could be a good route from BHD to compliment AMS.

Is it true the aircraft maintenance facility that was due to be built at LDY is moving to BHD instead?

Wouldn't this be something negotiated by someone further up the pecking order, i.e. Air FranceKLM?

No. there were to be one of each at LDY and BHD, but the LDY one has been scrapped. So one isn’t replacing the other. It’s just that one is no longer happening.

Well done them. Where are they locating the planned maintenance hanger, is it to be at the Shorts side of the airfield?

That must be the only area with space that would not impact on day to day Ops.

There isn't a huge amount of space at Harbour for new hangars etc. Whatever it is I hope its big enough to fit a Dash, theres always plenty of work being done on them! There was ground cleared beside the cargo unit some time ago, perhaps there? Not sure what size aircraft it could cater for though.

Still no effect from FR on MAN looking at the caa stats. BHX really strong and LCY in massive growth. Also EI sunshine doing well, interesting to see what happens in 2019 with that.

Still wondering if BA will start LCY BHD with one of their four Embraers joining the CityFlyer fleet.
