It is nominated as *a* diversion airport but the majority of diversions route to Shannon or Dublin.

I think I can list the number of diversions into Belfast International in the past half-decade on one hand; Air Berlin A330, Air France A340, United 777. Possibly also a KC-135 last year.

Shannon had more than 60 last year alone ( not counting short-haul weather diversions ) of which seven were Maydays and two Pans.

Indeed the designated North Atlantic emergency alternates are YQX, KEF, SNN and TER/SMX. Aircraft may choose to divert elsewhere for operational reasons but the above airports are the ones that got money from ICAO to cover some of the costs of remaining open 24/7 to receive diversions. BFS was never in this group. PIK possibly used to be.

No reply as yet from Eastern* but I see that FlyBE have reloaded the IOM flights after 11 June to route via Manchester on their own aircraft.

So it really does seem like it's all over

* plus they have a Twitter account, they're on Facebook and they have their own website - but not a squeak on ANY of those channels about discontinuing services. So why bother?

There was a BA 747 last year but it was a weather diversion if I remember correctly, due to deicing queues at Heathrow.

Previous ( and first? ) 777 was a TNT one on staff-familiarisation back in ... 2013?

FlyeBE don't seem to have loaded those Newcastle flights into their system yet, still grey after 11 June 2018. What a mess.

I'm fairly sure I saw a Swedish AF Gulfstream departing City around 18:00 tonight! I have no idea why.

Edit: yes, apparently SwAF serial 102004.

It’s with sincere regret that we must advise you that the opening of Carlisle Lake District Airport has been delayed by unforeseen circumstances. A major project to launch air services from a new airport relies not only on the airport’s infrastructure being complete but also a full complement of essential operating staff being in place. Regrettably, changing circumstances around the airport’s staffing means that this cannot be completed in time to receive scheduled flights as planned on 4 June, despite every effort made by the airport and the Stobart Group.

Stobart Group will continue to work with all stakeholders, including the Civil Aviation Authority. All parties are confident that the revised 3 September commencement date is both practical and achievable.
  1. In the meantime, we are offering customers booked on flights the following options:
  2. Rebook onto an alternative flight for travel from 03 September. Retrieve your booking via the Manage My Booking functionality on loganair.co.uk and select alternative flights.
  3. A refund back to your payment card. A refund will automatically be processed if we don’t hear from you by the 18th June. Alternatively, email [email protected], and we’ll process the refund within 5-7 working days
Contact Loganair on 0344 800 2855 to discuss alternative options

Wow, just had a look at the list of airlines/destination on wikipedia and this really is a case of (almost) all eggs in one basket. Other than BA, EI, KL to LHR and AMS, nothing but Flybe over the summer (until - if - Loganair shows up). What is the market share of Flybe pax and movement-wise`?

Brian has bought staff and customers free ice cream today
That's how you run an airport.
