I'm not out for Flybe btw. I think they are yet another British company shafted by atrocious management over the long term.

Yes management has let us down , what i think will happen is the owners will put the cash in and a whole new management structure to take us forward .

They are not going to stand back and do nothing .

I genuinely feel really sorry for you - Please can everyone be nice to fernlee.... And fernlee do us all a favour and make sure your CV is bang up to date and that you are actively looking for job opportunities in your local area... you'll be ok - just don't rely on the purple airline for your pay check!

Lufthansa just announced they will ground 150 aircraft, almost 20% of their fleet. Yes, even the biggest players are seeing serious amounts of pain

Virgin/Delta/Stobart will be thinking purely about their own survival and preserving cash to keep their own businesses alive

Virgin have announced that the Sao Paolo route due to launch this month is postponed until October. The CEO will take a 20% pay cut and other executives 15%. Recruitment on hold too.

Thank you , I’m still hopeful something will be pulled out the bag , but it is looking grim .

The news is all over the media so i guess it’s inevitable public confidence in flybe will suffer likely collapse

Sadly Flybe is in the Far SW and not a northern based company. The local MPs bar 2 are all Tories and have done b*gg*r all over transport infrastructure for years, so they won't go to the wall over Flybe

yet they provide a lot of connectivity for the north of England. Manchester will be hit badly.

I made my decision, I didn’t book my flight for next week, I’m going by train.

If the CEO of an airline makes a statement that his airline will run out of money and begs the government for help, passengers will take note and look for a more dependable means of travel.

This is just the last of a long list of management failures. The interesting part is that different managers have come in and made different mistakes.

I wouldn't say that is particularly fair. Steve Double has worked hard for Flybe as the MP for Newquay, helping with the PSO status and the Heathrow slots. There has also been investment in the rail including repairs at Dawlish. Granted it isn't always huge amounts and a lot more could be done but the money has to come from somewhere and not many people are happy with tax rises. Incidentally Flybe's local MP, Ben Bradshaw was one of the biggest supporters of green taxes, which are now cited by Flybe as being one of the reasons behind their problems.

*Speculation Alert*
It seems pretty obvious what the owners are doing.
They appear to be happy to let FlyBe roll slowly over the cliff along with its liabilites (the £100m APD / lease payments etc). That leaves them unencumbered to start another version of FlyBe which *might* be run better from the start.
My bet is that the owners know exactly what they are doing - they will not be putting any more money in (good money after bad) and they have only asked HMG for more money as a speculative punt (nothing more to lose).
The damage was done many years ago and those in charge at the time should be ashamed of themselves.
I've used FlyBe countless times over the years and I'm genuinely sorry that it's come to this. I was on an almost full FlyBe EMB175 just last week and I was amazed and humbled by the fortitude and professionalism of the MAN based crew given their personal circumstances.
Hopefully something more sustainable will replace it and take on the viable routes and re-employ the excellent staff that work there.
Good luck to all

Thanks FFMAN - very kind of you to say. Will pass it on to rest of my colleagues here in MAN.

I’ve said it once, said it twice and I’ll say it again.

Me too and also to all your BE colleagues - They have all had enough angst and pain - From your location tag Cider country I guess you are near to EXT, East Devon or Zummerset?
I'm not that far from EXT meself....
I used to look after Jersey European F-27's at LGW many many years ago - The staff and crews were lovely.

For an airline to rise as a phoenix takes time - see the demise of Sabena, Swissair or even bmi regional. There is a risk that during the period between the old airline ceasing and the new/surviving airline operating, a bigger airline decides to scoop up some of the most routes with most profit potential. I would not put it past Easyjet or Ryanair to have plans that can be activated quickly

Didn't MOL at Ryanair and Loganair both say discussions and plans had already been made to serve some routes should Flybe go under.

A lot of past tense is creeping into the discussion.

I can't see virgin and stobart investing more now - they need every dollar for their own survival over the next six months.

Most airports have 'Backfill' solutions in play if they do go pop - the only worrying one is SOU due to the proximity of LGW - that is a timing issue... IF someone is in there within a week then it will be fine - after 10-30 days I think LGW will just be the lesser of two evils. Caveat - Channel Isles should be unaffected

Codeshares

Codeshares are.not the saviour either

I used to work for BMI often on trunk routes between Edi or Gla to LHR they could have groups of 50 codeshares onto Jal for exple they used to get £50 a codeshare (compared to leak fare of circa £150 on peak flights) the added hassle of missing luggage inbound.

Codeshares with VS for Flybe Edi to LHR for examle will not be a cash cow for Flybe

5 news just reporting that Flybe have said they'll run out of money by the end of the month.

I hope they survive. Lots of UK jobs at risk.

SOU is a worry if the worst happens, as the 737-800 cannot suitably operate from there both economically and operationally (not as yet, if ever)
The A319/A320 is OK - that leaves EZY as a contender if they so should wish to venture there.
Their winter only GVA does rather well for the Skiers, but tis seasonal, weekends except Xmas/NY and half-term Hols when they do more flights per week.
SOU has a superb rail link and the check-in desks are less than 5 mins walk from the trains.
