This may be one of the reasons.
The referred to article is absolute rubbish and over 2 years old. We have left the EU the pound is rising and our destiny is in the hands of our elected MPs. Quite frankly if it means that some of Bransons ventures are torpedoed I couldn’t care less. As an earlier post explained he has
had more failures than successes.
I suggest Branson should get his hand in his pocket and deliver along with the other members of the consortium on what was promised just over 12 months ago. If they can’t be bothered then the shutters will come down on BE. No way should tax payers money be used to pro long the slow death of this company.

It was just a view from one part of the consortium on the Hard Brexit option and I was just putting it out there as a potential answer to the previous question. I don't know the views of the other two consortium partners or the board but the current direction of travel suggest that there will be a considerably amount of uncertainty over the next year or two.

This doesn't need to turn into a Brexit argument. That, for better or for worse is a done deal.

However it is entirely possible that a future relationship that is tantamount to no deal could so easily impact very adversely on Flybe, not to mention the rest of the UK economy. We have to wait and see. With regard to the currency, the main upward movement in sterling's value has been against the Euro, which is having a torrid time against the dollar, and if you look at the sterling / US dollar rate you can see it's hardly shifted in recent weeks, albeit the little movement there has been is upward.

A crash in sterling's value against the dollar, however it were caused, could well create yet further difficulties for Flybe since, one would assume, since their koffers aren't exactly flush, hedging fuel whilst oil is off it's highs and sterling OK is probably not an option. Don't know (like everyone else, and I mean EVERYONE ELSE), just speculating.

I think the point is that the wide ecomomic position has not much changed from when the consortium made their initial investment. So, if they were prepared to take on responsibility for BE then, why are they now looking to Govt. when they have plenty of resources of their own? If you haven't got the stake, don't enter the game.

I suspect they were thinking of putting in their own money and then realised they could use the newly elected Govt.'s position on the regions to get their snouts in the trough instead

I don't like Branson but he's always been very quick witted who can spin things to his advantage very quickly - hence his amazing survival..................

Nothing really new there other than more speculation. If you read past Telegraph articles on the matter, you'll understand that they've very much a downer on the airline in general.

More twists and turns as new chancellor said to be opposed to reduction in APD.

The summer season begins in around six weeks.
There would appear to be no public facing plans to change the business to feed Virgin long haul in time for this to happen before the summer peak. The new owners are leaving this *very* late, if they had any real intention of operating flybe as a meaningful feeder for VS. There would be plans for seamless T3/T2 transfers at MAN ready to go to fill those long haul departures. Perhaps behind the scenes it's all ready to go? If it's not, then there's no serious appetite and they're going through the motions in name only.

Good point , I can state fairly confidently there are no such plans in place....Which is concerning .

This thread, like so many others has gone back to useless, uninformed speculation.
Why can'y everyone wait for the Governments decision?

By the way, speculation is neither a rimour or news.
Perhaps this site should be renamed the Proffesional Pilots and armchair experts network

Hardly think someone posting a link from a leading broadsheet is spreading uninformed speculation.... the telegraph article could very well be true, which might not suit you but there it is......

Exactly, could be true = speculation. But I was more aiming at some of the other postings on this, once again, degenerating thread

I’d say it’s pretty likely that it is true .....However whenever facts are scarce the vacuum is often filled with speculation, Human nature .

Just because a couple of people doesn't like conjecture, rumour or speculation that's no need to stop posting. PPrune has always been the same and isn't going to change anytime soon. I'd suggest anyone slightly snowflakey regarding that should probably just avoid this thread to save disappointment.

Conversely, random unfounded speculation demeans the discussion. Opinions and thoughts are one thing and should always be encouraged. But just making random sh*t up actually serves no purpose - see the previous claim of the £500m loan.
