There are 3 things I would follow as an airline CEO
1) Only pick fights that I can win
2) If a cost is avoidable, pass it on to the passenger as an ancillary charge/change passenger behaviour
3) Once you have decided upon the level of service offered by your airline, avoid confusing passengers by offering different levels of service in different parts of your network

What I can't understand is that Flybe have been saying to the City very loudly that they are reducing capacity and taking rational decisions about loss-making routes. They then go and charter in four aircraft from Eastern to fly six routes, all of which must be massively loss-making if the figures being thrown about are even half-way accurate. It's totally inconsistent with their stated strategy. I do wonder whether their shareholders have any idea of just how much trouble is around the corner in this airline, both with the venture in Scotland, the bleed from Heathrow and the credit card income loss. It adds up to a bucket load of trouble, and that's even before you get onto Q400 maintenance / landing gear issues.
Someone is on a serious ego trip with all of this stuff. The last CEO's ego was damaging enough to the business and you'd have thought that corporate lessons would have been learned from that alone. Clearly not.

Absolutely and precisely correct.
I do worry about the future of flybe with such foolhardy dalliances with eastern.
Exeter commercially needs a shake up and then put a dynamic team in there.
I fear that a few will fail and negatively impact all of us.

Do this lot never learn! return to profitability was described to us as sticking to their core business of regional connections, reducing fleet size and cutting out poor route selections. Instead we are seeing an expansion of charter flights and franchise agreements that are muddying the water some what further. Shareholders must be pulling their hair out!

Can we eleborate on
"The bleed from Heathrow".
I thought these flights were full although I must confess there has never been a ringing endorsement from FlyBe in terms of "PR" which I really would have expected.
If they are not making money theSE routes would surely have gone by now ?
Do we have forensic evidence in terms of what's happening in this specific market!

No forensic evidence, it's not needed, just ask the experts above, they seem to know more about Flybe's business than Flybe itself. Companies must be queuing up to recruit them on a "name your salary" contract.

If you go to flybe's Investor Relations page, you can download the H1 presentation which was released on 9 November. Go to page 8 and you'll see the entry reported "includes LHR" with a negative £4.4m change. There is no other supporting stuff as to how the LHR routes are performing and nor I guess are they required to provide any. However it's fairly clear that they must be making a loss even if running full - which is possible if yields are low but costs are high.
If you do a few Google searches then you'll quickly find some pieces about performance in Scotland. If questioning the economics of running an Embraer 170 around with a single passenger aboard makes me an "armchair CEO" then that's a mantle I'll happily wear.
And if you're a Flybe employee who doesn't see any of this as a challenge or even a big issue, then good luck to you. You'll need it.

Has anyone else had problems collecting Avios with Flybe?
I never get credited automatically for flights. For missing miles you can't claim before 30 days have elapsed- but also you can no longer claim after 40 days have elapsed.
That is a very tiny window to make a claim, considering the miles should be credited automatically after travel.

Yes I've noticed the Avios points not updating.
Also, have any of you attempted to book flights via their app? It's a really buggie app, error messages, impossible to effectively use. I thought it was just me and then read the reviews - it's a common problem.
So we've got Avios issues and a mobile app which is buggie and unusable. Something tells me embracing technology isn't high on the priority list at flybe.

A good well design well written app on a par with Easyjet's app will not come cheap. I suspect Flybe is just a bit too small an airline to really need a major app and be able to monetise the app the way larger carriers have

I believe that it is your Avios number, not BA (exec club Avios-earning) number that needs to be added with your booking. There was an issue with the IT required get only certain digits of the Avios number which also didn't/doesn't help.
