Sorry, just seen this... Stornoway is anything but a 'short-field' airport: at about 2,300m its runway is nearly as long as Newcastle's. Sumburgh has about 1,500m, so is a lot shorter than Southend. Plus there's a great big hill on the approach to runway 33 leading to an interesting approach pattern.

I think Stornaway was considered way back but that was when they had the much lower capacity -200s. 189 is maybe just too many seats to fill. They may fill an -800 to Inverness including from Germany, much as they manage with Kerry.
Would a route to Scottish islands on Ryanair really be viable ? Tourist season is maybe 3 or 4 months of the year (when demand to Mediterranean beaches is high), and I imagine that the locals would want to support Loganair to ensure availability of transport on a year round basis as happened with Flybe/Easteen

A quick google search confirms talks did take place about 18 years ago so it’s not really April Fools territory. It is an area people are keen to visit so it’s not as off the wall as one may immediately think. The problem might remain that too much money is required to upgrade facilities to handle larger aircraft to make it worthwhile, though the SNP might well see it as money well spent!

Actually you do. If someone has been pleasant and interesting then lose nothing by doing it a second time as you may be able to help in a different way. Just dismissing something quickly leaves a very negative impression. A second meeting to indicate why not feasible at this point in time plus offer advice and assistance leave a very different message.
Bearing in mind that people suggesting one airport may in 5 years time be looking after a much bigger airport in a different country. A meeting occurs between Airline and Airport and person meets someone they met 5 years ago. They remember person as being polite, pleasant and willing to offer advice then that is a much better meeting that someone who remembers someone as being dismissive. Most business is really small place.

Not quite sure how to interpret this. Does it mean Ryanair is closing all routes from Belfast ? The Ryanair website seems to show tickets on sale for some routes into 2020
