It will be interesting to see if Wizz expand in GLA.

Can I remind everyone that the SNP don't have a majority. They run coalition with the Greens, so no chance of APD reduction. Quite apart from the loss of revenue to fund public services.

It's strange. I have used Ryanair on various routes over the years. I think all were heavily loaded, if not all seats taken, and certainly not at their supposed bargain basement fares.

Yet, with the singular exception of London Stansted to Dublin (whose frequency itself is well down on past years) all of these routes I took have gone. Extraordinary. Meanwhile pretty much all the legacy routes I have taken over time carry on, often with improved frequencies. You certainly could not plan business branch foreign offices or a holiday home on the basis of Ryanair routes.

The selection includes :

Prestwick to Stansted
Stansted to Tampere, Finland
Stansted to Kos, Greece

There has to be a hint of irony in the Greens putting their foot down on APD, yet the SNP project of Prestwick losing its only daily route......

But I'm sure the Greens at the Scottish Parliament will be very glad of Ryanair service from Edinburgh to whichever lush Mediterranean resort the next "climate change" conference happens to be hosted in.

This may actually help Glasgow’s new Lufthansa routes less pressure from Ryanair on fares. It will also relieve some of the pressure Ryanair placed on Jet2.com, TUI and Thomas Cook to the sun resorts. I think Edinburgh’s infrastructure will really struggle soon (if it’s not now), i’ve Always felt claustrophobic when i’m Working there, it always seems just on the edge of chaos.

I'm not sure an airline pulling out can ever be perceived as "good news".

That said whilst appreciating there were lots of away based frames the singular aircraft at GLA must be being flogged to death!

Navpi, it’s obviously not good news but I know Ryanair have hit yields on what was Glasgow’s main market the IT sector. Also with rock bottom fares on FRA route gone hopefully will help LH, I think AGS really have to find a way to help improve airlines yields at GLA. FR and GLA have always had a strange relationship.

Fortunately EDI has been building a terminal expansion over the winter.

As GLA was a smaller base than EDI, would it make crewing easier being consolidated into two rather than three airports?

If it's been posted earlier then I apologise, but how many aircraft were GLA based?

Just the one, the second was lost when GLA-STN was dropped due to the crewing balls up.

One aeroplane on routes that are already well served, no big deal I would say.

However, does EDI not have APD just the same as GLA? And will EDI not be similarly affected by Brexit as GLA? If the answer to those questions is YES, and I believe that it is, then this is Valdermort Airlines making excuses for making cuts rather than being honest.

"O'Leary Must Go!"

Ryanair pilot group calls for Michael O'Leary to step down

...but what it's got to do with him, I don't know.
