Headline in the Telegraph shoes what a lucky escape the taxpayer had with the canning of runway 3.
These clowns wanted billions in taxpayer subsidies to prop up the supporting road and rall infrastructure but are happy to give away millions in dividends to foriegn shareholders.

Paxing All Over The World
The Board have not quite got the hang of the words 'Unprecedented times in the life of aviation'. Other companies have backed off from paying dividends. As I have said in other threads, these (so-called) managers are using their standard playbook. The only problem being that is a 20th Century playbook ...
As many of us have said, R3 is toast. I had never imagined that this would be the reason for it not happening but it was clear that it was not going to get built.

I wouldn't be so sure. With a recession on the way the government may look at big infrastructure projects like that to try and stimulate the economy.

Lots of flights still operating between UK islands/mainland as well as these are considered to be strategically critical routes for the movement of pax and goods. Flights still operating into/out of LGW, MAN, EMA, STN, LTN, SOU, FAB, BQH, EDI, GLA, DSA, BHX,NQY, PIK to name a few.
Pax arriving are expected to quarantine themselves for 14 days regardless of having symptoms or not, whilst maintaining social distancing once disembarked. Some Pax are tested on departure from their departure point, none are tested upon arrival, but if they follow regulations it restricts further spread. You have to rely on people being accountable for themselves to protect others. Testing on arrival would do little to change anything due CV19 taking 5 days to incubate.

R3 is NOT toast, it will still happen, albeit with a much delayed schedule. The future economy will need it even more so now.
Those who thought it wouldn't happen even before CV19 appeared were and still are very mistaken.
It's a battle won for the 'Greens' ..........................for now!

The country is taking on gazillions in more debt - this will last for years (and don't forget that there will be a lot more money long term for things like the NHS as well). Any Govt will be looking to cut other expenditures - HS2 and R3 are obvious targets. R3 especially as it will be several years before we get anywhere near 2019 passenger numbers and movements. If the Govt don't stop it the anti-s will go back to the courts on the basis that everything has changed and all the old traffic forecasts are now total rubbish (which is correct).

South African Airways
Who owns the slot SAA use for the daily flight to/from Johannesburg ? SAA or is it leased ? Presumably the receiver has several months to sell the slots before they go back in the pot for random redistribution
Any thoughts on likely bidders ?
Is this the first LHR slot sale since the collapse in flying demand ?

Though that prompts the question of whether the Government will continue to support LHR expansion, given the prospect of both LGW and STN operating at way under capacity for the foreseeable future.
I don't think the Govt will fancy spending billions on the R3 expansion project and its associated works...............

Yes, LHR will always have the traffic and Yes the 3rd would be nice but, irrespective of the Green issue, no gov wanted to fight to spend money on LHR. It was an easy battle to give away. Having privatised the airports, it would be highly problematic to feed more money into them given the new Depression.
