I suppose if the "old" part of the building is upgraded with new technology then floor space can be saved.
I worry about the flexibility and room for growth additional space can provide (nb - useful space, such as additional retail) whilst the builders are on site and planning is in hand. However, someone has to pay for it!
Obviously, there is the prospect / possibility of redevelopment of T1/3 from the mid 2020's onwards.
Slot hand backs due, so it'll be interestiing to see where these go.

Really useful information Roverman. I have to say I'm a bit surprised that the Pier 1 will, in effect not be much bigger than the current Pier C (which is roughly 200m x 25m at its widest). Admittedly there will be much more internal space given the split over two floors - I assume ground floor will be office space, etc rather than lounge space.
Your comment too in a later post about the scaling back of the size of the terminal extension is also a cause for concern in terms of accommodating future growth.
On the plus side, I travelled through T2 on Sunday morning and was through and into my taxi within an hour of touch down. It would have been quicker but only half of the e-gates were in operation.

Arrived Monday morning into T2 on CX - same, only 5 of the 10 e-gates in operation. I use e-gates at HKG, AKL & CHC and they scan twice as fast as the UK ones. Felt really at home with the blue buckets in the Skylink though, going to miss those.

Mmmm, yet again, a great Manchester plan is to be Scaled Back.
Where on earth have the visionary's / the risk takers gone ?
Why scale back? Are those in charge with the future of the Airport so meek and blind that they can't already see that the present plans are at least 5 years late in being started and by the time they are finished we will most likely only just be ahead of the game again, before we find that we've fallen behind the drag curve once more?
I remember a Film, where the phrase " Build it, and they will come " was used to great effect. Yes o.k. a film based on fantasy, but there have been real life precedents before, even at Manchester!
Terminal 1 in the 60's,- when built it was sometimes like a ghost town, but soon proved its worth by putting Manchester well and truly at the top.
Runway extensions in the 60's /70's. Only one or two transatlantic flights that required a greater length than 7000' for a max weight departure, but extensions were built and then more and more came and the airport boomed.
Pier C in the 70's, was called a white elephant, but a few years later what would they have done without it?
Come on Man managers, - manage a thriving business by scaling UP rather than down all the time, - there's just no vision anymore.
The money must still be there, otherwise why publish such grandiose plans about the development in the first place, only to pull the plug and watch the baby go down the plug hole with the bath-water?
How I wish I could for once sing their praises as I did in the past

Which effectively means an overnight flight arriving 0200 UK ; 0400 Israel. Not ideal for those going to hotels but actually not too bad for those of us going home/to family/our own accommodation.

The days and times for ELAL have now changed.
Looks to be a mainline B737-800. Will now operate mornings with a 0910 arrival into MAN, 1025 departure. Increase in frequency to 3 weekly too with flights now Tue/Thu/Sun.
Starts 1st May.

"Heard a rumour that the Fly Be maintenance contract with MAEL ends in March.
Also they are looking at buying the TCX hangar at Manchester as TCX want out of doing own maintenance.
How far fetched are these rumours ?"
If there is anything in the rumour that TCX are planning to withdraw from their Manchester Maintenance base then this is a significant issue for MAN.
Can anybody conrtibute any information on this matter ?

I think the Skylink from the Train Station to T2 will still be there after the Transformation Project? It looks like the Terminal is not being expanded in that area.

It’s still all TBC but I believe Jet2 moving flights to T2 was to free up stand still in T1 for Easyjet to keep all 17 based aircraft at T1. Obviously Jet2 would have been given some sort of incentive to do this but that was the plan as I understood it.
Is the easyJet expansion still happening? If they have 17 a/c how many more is that than last year? Last rumour I heard was that with the expansion of Tegel, and with BA utilising wet leases at Gatwick, they couldn't find anyone to operate for them and don't have the capacity to expand in house to fill the slots they got up in MAN. Have they been handed back?
