Air India flights now showing on Skyscanner. So looks to be 100% happening.

Should sell well seeing as there’s a large Asian/Indian community to the east of London. Far easier than trekking across town to LHR.

Didn’t PIA have a stint at STN with their A310? Can’t remember if it was Lahore or Islamabad? Wonder if they’ll show interest again at some point?

PIA did indeed use STN for a short time, until their aircraft were banned from EU airspace!

The airline that should move to STN is Biman, the Bangladeshi community really is focussed towards the east of London. For some time I’ve seen no compelling reason for them to be at LHR other than national pride.

Here is a list of the Indian community in and around London - I think you can only count one of these Boroughs as being in East London - For the majority LHR is far easier!
Greater London 6.6%
Harrow 26.4%
Hounslow 19.0%
Brent 18.6%
Redbridge 16.4%
Ealing 14.3%
Newham 13.8%
Hillingdon 13.4%

Two in fact. Newham and Redbridge. Both have a very sizeable community. So why shouldn’t the Asian/Indian communities of east London be better connected!?

Anyway. The catchment area conversation has been done time and time again on here. I’m sure Air India have done their homework. I guess the good folk of west London will just have to trek across to Stansted if they wish to fly direct to Amritsar. Just like the good folk of east London have to trek across town to LHR if the want to fly direct to Delhi.

Just one thing to note, Amritsar is a Sikh centre so it’s the Sikh population that should be explored rather than Indians more generally.

Reading of additional rotations from Jet2 at BHX/MAN/NCL in the wake of MT/TCX’s collapse. Are there similar plans for the STN schedule especially around October and half term?

Dalaman - 3 extra weekly flights
Palma - 1 extra weekly flight
Tenerife - 1 extra weekly flight

Air India

There are now reports that Air India are starting flights between Goa and London before peak tourism season in India (from November into spring) in response to Thomas Cook ceasing operations. Not sure which London airport they plan to operate this route from if it does happen. With the STN-ATQ flights reservation is open until end of W19/20, other AI routes from London are open for bookings through to September 2020.

Interesting if this does come to Stansted. There is a big gap in the UK-Goa market with the demise of MT/TCX.

I think we’ll see this announcement early this coming week.

Interesting, I can’t imagine they will operate from both STN and LGW. So GOI could be on the cards also?

Although I wouldn’t be surprised if ATQ suddenly moves to LGW before launch. With TCX gone, LGW might want to steal this one. ATQ still not officially on sale on their website. I’m not surprised there’s no schedule past W19/20 as this is all happening so fast, one will come once it’s launched I imagine.

Do any board members know why Tom003 from Aruba diverted to Stansted this morning, I believe that it is now flying to its original destination of LGW. (Friends onboard)

LGW has heavy flow restrictions this morning due to weather around the airport. TOM003 didn’t have the fuel to carry on holding for LGW, so diverted to STN for a fuel top up.

Thanks very much 406, I did speak to the friends this afternoon and they said it was a low fuel divert, once again thanks.

I'd be surprised if Air India remains at STN for any appreciable period, but with these type of airlines, anything goes!
'FlyPop' will be reeling... though can't see that lasting either IMO if it ever gets off the ground.

Evening CC, Full of positivity this evening.
Lets just see how Air India get on before we start assuming they will pack up and move south.

As for Flypop, Air India might just have helped them out getting STN on the map and will give an alternative lower fare option on the route when / if they launch.

Lets try and be a bit more positive, I mean, who would have thought Emirates would be Twice daily from Stansted.

To be fair, CC is right. Emirates is a special case and isn’t comparable. Just look south of the river to see very little sticks around long-term. I’m delighted STN has bagged Air India but if they’re still there in three years it’s because they can’t get LHR slots, even if by conventional measures STN is a roaring success.
