DHL are to build a huge warehouse close to Stansted, might this mean extra cargo flights?

DHL have built a huge warehouse next to MAN, but I don't think it has resulted in any additional traffic. They still move a lot of freight by road to specific hubs eg EMA

With talk of EK going quickly to double daily and doing very well up front, is this an indication of the potential market for LH out of STN, or is it EK/DXB specific? i.e. have EK hit on certain demographic or commercial relationship that wouldn't translate to other routes?

I'm not saying it's all related to house racing at Newmarket, but is there that sort of connection that makes DXB-STN work in particular?

There are factors involved in Emirates success at STN which are of course specific...

The Godolphin Stables at Newmarket through ownership obviously have a very strong link with Emirates & with marketing too as the airline sponsor them.

Godolphin recently stated that the new link is very beneficial for them for staff travel when needed. There are however more equine links through STN with the Dubai Air Wing providing the horse & groom transportation with DUB8 the B744F & arriving again this morning.Emirates World Cargo put in the occasional visit on horse flights too.

There are also strong links with DXB witness the high volume of Emirati Royal Flight visits.

MAG/STN have been emphasizing in most press releases relating to UAE33/4 the significance of the "Cambridge Corridor" with it`s rapidly expanding IT/HighTec/Pharma industries.

Notwithstanding too the world renowned Universities within the City.

Both MAG & Emirates have pax data relating to their more general market targeted relating to journey out of the the region to LHR/LGW.

The more general market can be regarded as the whole of the East of England (a region strong enough to be working with MAG/STN for a direct China service).

Emirates will also be filling seats from the North London & City market undoubtedly...both within easy access.

There is also reasoning that with the London & part BHX ops being A380 there is a cargo uplift needed & provided by the B777 at STN.

There is a specific market inbound/outbound identified & provided for with the timings of UAE33/4 ex DXB which do appear incongruous perhaps when noting the large amount of time spent on the ground.

STN will be very happy to use Emirates as an excellent example of long haul out of STN which should be sure to encourage other prospective airlines..

The interesting part maybe be the 2nd daily & timings & if the UAE33/34 is altered to work with it.

DHL are focused on their Heathrow operation as they have a lot of belly cargo out of Heathrow in addition to their own flights. They are not able to get morning arrival slots at Heathrow hence the Luton operation which required them to truck the cargo to and from Heathrow. If I recall the A300 positions empty from Luton to Heathrow for the evening departure. I don't see either the Luton or Heathrow operations moving. Stansted I believe has two DHL flights each weekday with a B757 in and out during the early hours to provide inbound cargo lift only, This year for the first time they have a B737 day stopper for the peak season which provides outbound lift in the evening.apparenly it has been determined that trucking the cargo from EMA to the South East takes too long hence the Stansted operation which is providing additional capacity to support the Heathrow and Luton flights.. the EMA to Manchester route does not suffer from the same traffic congestion that the South East does so they truck the freight between the airports instead. . .

Operated by OE-LOF A320. The passenger numbers were not brilliant. Inbound 66 and Outbound 39. But the ski season isn’t really in full swing yet and Innsbruck doesn’t have the tourist pull that say Salzburg dose away from the slopes.

The Vienna figures where very good yesterday with A321 on both flights.
AM flight: 195 in 205 out
PM flight: 203 in 202 out
When looking most of the Vienna flights have had very good figures. Most A321 flights are 190-200 passengers.

I was surprised it started so early. Even next week is pushing it. At that frequency you are just catering to skiers. Dec 23rd would have been obvious time to commence.

searching for LON (LGW,LTN,STN & SEN), there are 19 daily flights on Saturday and Sunday. I know its a short sector so cost-wise it should be relatively cheap, but how can they reastically expect to sell every single duration without a few terrible loads thrown in?

A lot of people go skiing! I would say the majority of my middle class friends aged 25-70 living in Herts, Bucks, and Beds will do so over the coming season.

If you look on the easy website a number of flights to Geneva this weekend are sold out. Skiing and apres ski (that is your actual French) is very popular.

Like the Med in summer certainly the first and last week of ops are going to be light in one direction and that is normal and factored into the cost of the operation. The Innsbruck launch being light in both directions was entirely avoidable because it started a week or two too early.

Record breaking November...

1.98m pax for November + 8.7% or an extra 158,000 pax.

Moving 12 months now 27.8m + 7.3%.

Very encouraging figures.

Forecast to be the busiest ever Christmas/New Year period too...

1.2m pax forecast between 21/12-6/1 an increase of 150,000 pax.

Busiest day of the period due to be 30/12 with 86,000 pax.

Revealingly LCY has 16 extra daily slots to contribute to the total London market for Summer`19 & STN provides 15 extra daily slots.

Both LTN & LGW have zero increase in total slot capacity for Summer`19.

Be great to see Paris back on the departure boards. It’s been some time indeed.

Shame it’s not daily but but a great add nonetheless!

Brilliant news for Stansted. It seems odd why no airline has done Paris for so long. I can see this route being very successful for EasyJet and I’d hope it goes daily eventually.
