Thomas Cook ending their long haul ops after this summer. The flights have always been full over the past 3 years, even when Orlando was 11 weekly S18. There is obviously demand from STN for these lesuire long haul flights, I presume one reason they're ending is because of a lack of aircraft with the air tankers going to Jet2?
Do we see any one else coming to fill the gap? Maybe Primeria to Orlando on the LR when they're delivered? Or even a Virgin service similar to Belfast and Glasgow?

when it comes to long haul and people will travel further to the airport. I don't see of the traditional tour operators picking up the slack especially with Wizz and Primeria being in the market.

Poor STN is getting a real pounding by tv news channels this morning following last night's storms. The main complaints are the lack of airline and airport staff to provide info and guidance. It does appear to be very chaotic and does little to boost STN's reputation.

Just looked at prices for Majorca 07/08-14/08
Ryanair: £192 (STN)
Easyjet: £185 (STN)
Easyjet: £160 (LTN)
Norwegian: £150 (LGW)
British Airways £186 (LGW/LCY)
Minimal difference really, passengers in the summer just book what’s more convenient on price and availability. They don’t really care who they travel airline wise, as long as they have a holiday really.

Sorry everyone, not our fault. Circumstances outside of our control. What are you talking about? Industrial action? No no no! Definitely cancelled due to extreme weather. Please leave now and take your crying brats with you. Hope to see you back at London Standstill Airport real soon.

I thought there were restrictions on such routes, or has this changed? EZY and WZZ wanted to open up more routes but were knocked back by Russian UK agreements.
I'm not in the least surprised by the success of EK. STN is not just a London airport, it's the regional airport for a large and prosperous population. My late sister was a great world traveller and would have welcomed not having to get herself to LHR.
Given STN launched with the standard 77W with First, it’s a proper standout from almost evey other flight at the airport. As for yields, volume gives no clue.
But the catchment area is comparably much smaller than LHR/LGW, draw a circle with STN at the centre and you have a lot of green fields, fewer if you do so at LGW, and much fewer for LHR.

Emirates flies A380s out of LGW as well as LHR but like BHX, some are High Y and No F.

Clearly EK know what they’re doing with this route and it’s working for them. Watch it grow.

While I appreciate the point about STN having more 'green fields' than LHR or LGW, it's main benefit is being north of the M25 so in that respect it's catchment goes much further north towards the midlands and the entire East of England, the immediate area is generally very wealthy too. Bit sceptical regarding it going twice daily so soon, give it a year or two for itself to establish more then I can't see why not. STN has always been the sick man of London's airports, it was designed to have full service carriers then FR came along and changed it's image. The architecture is fantastic, it's a shame the infrastructure was left to rot under BAA whilst MAG is more focused on shops so hasn't spent a significant amount of money on improving it to encourage more full service.

Good news regarding Pobeda, too! I don't believe Kaliningrad is served from anywhere else in western Europe. Together with Laudamotion (FR Austria), this makes two new airlines joining the family in October.
Same old anti-Stansted rhetoric however
My view on this is that on review after 2 years or so on which of the 9 daily London flights has the lowest yield, I would suspect it would still be STN, but time will tell.
