So in the run up to COVID the airport had been in profit for 12 to 18 months and so no Scottish Govt provision was required for 2020. Two airport property sales took place, one alone securing its future, and presumably returning part of the loan. HMS Gannet operational daily, the Coast Guard too. B747Fs and B777Fs daily, next in an hour, two tomorrow, inc PPE flights. Most RAF A330s and C17s landed. The A400s aren't landing anywhere on their training flights. Ryanair MRO active daily, Chevron still storing 5 B787s. Visits from RAF, RN, Army, USAF, USN, US Army, RCAF, Kuwait, Qatar, VDA and civil in the past week or so. That's PIK at its low point due COVID, but one might suggest holding up much better than many others, and maintaining its strategic importance.

Can you point me to the profitability over the last 12-18 months please?
That`s very interesting, as accounts filed with Companies House in 2019 showed the airport cut its operating losses to £1m.That was compared with £3m the previous year. The total loss for the year, including loan interest, was £3.8m - a 50% reduction on the previous year.

So where is the profit???

Ah yes, a textbook lesson in how to kill any legitimacy of a post regarding Prestwick Airport. Referencing The Scotsman who have an agenda bias against the Scot Gov. If Nicola Sturgeon came out and said Prestwick Airports figures were through the roof and brilliant, they'd be calling it an outrage as it's disturbing the local pigeon population.

The thing I don't get about some people is they claim to love Prestwick and support it but at the same time, secretly crave bad news and don't like any reality that doesn't fit that agenda such as the numerous flights still coming through including the welcome addition of Qatari C17's and SAM flights from across the water. How on earth can that signify the end of any business when in this if all times, business is still being won...

Take a day off...

You'll have to wait for the accounts filed with Companies House in 2020, won't you.

HMS Gannet operational daily? Genuinely though the Royal Navy had reduced the facility to care and maintenance?
Given how much they need the income from crew training, what’s the actual issue with the runway and is it being fixed?

Gannet is a FOB for 814 sqn, and also a based King Air pretending to be a Nimrod. Whatever is or isn't wrong with the runway isn't stopping the heavies.

Have landed several times (in a heavy) on RWY12/30 over last few months and seems absolutely fine to me. Always a pleasure flying into PIK.

Where was there any reference to The Scotsman in my post? It`s common knowledge that the deal has stalled.
Welcome addition of a one off Qatari C-17 training flight against the loss of a loyal customer of over 70 years to a rival FBO and competitor?
I hope you don`t work at the airport with an attitude like that.

It is indeed a great airport. The issue is with recent training flights which have not been allowed to do touch and go/roller landings. P-8/A400/C-130/C-17 traffic have been told this by ATC. I would imagine the runway is in dire need of a resurface and a training flight putting holes in the runway would upset the remaining scheduled traffic movements which the airport will prioritise. I was watching an A400 doing touch and go landings elsewhere yesterday. Glad you are visiting PIK. Long may you do so.

More Qatari C-17s and SAM flights due? This QEAF went outbound via Stansted, which they use regularly. Global Trek have been busy advertising their RCAF flights and they’ve had a vast chunk of them. You can’t blame people for being worried while Prestwick Airport seems to hide away from advertising it’s abilities. No one is
gloating in Ayrshire. We are just very very worried. More RCAF possibly due Aldergrove this weekend.

You hope I don't work at the airport because I have a positive attitude about what's been going on and the continued business through a global pandemic ? lol

For someone such as myself who has been involved in all kinds of work and events at the place be it Ryanair, USAF, Canforce, Royalty or even Air Force One, I find your judgement on myself highly amusing as much as I find your expert view on the future of the airport and current business.

Like I said, take a day off... you are boring people who actually know what's going on and what they are doing at the place and that's a fact...

Ps - You'll be glad to know I don't work there anymore and have since moved on in aviation...

Have a great day Mr Pinch

Glad with immaturity shown in this post that you have moved on!!
Anyway for the record, SAM flights are far from new business (as you will know working Air Force 1 ;-))
More worrying is the fact that 8 of the last 10 CAF flights have operated from Belfast.
I am having a go, because I would like to know how that business could be swept up by a competitor on the doorstep, when they have operated successfully at Prestwick for 60 odd years.
On the airport sale, I am right in saying that it has stalled and is not signed off.
In respect of aircraft not being able to do circuits, again I am correct. P8, A400 and C130 refused touch and go circuits.

Sorry for not being all giggly that all is well at the airport, because it aint!

Enjoy flying your Cessna GA boy.

Your wasting your time mate. I had a go about the airport last year and all I got back was abuse.
You are not allowed to have an opinion unless you say that all is well.

Was never like that in my day working at Prestwick. Hudson had a well run machine and it was a
pleasure to work there.

As an outsider..to me Prestwick is in a better position than most.

Ideal position weather wise, great long runway. Huge area for expansion.
A vast diversity of traffic ,not relying on passengers.

Fuel stops,deliveries,military,SAR,quiet airspace,maintenance,storage,odd passenger flights et.al.!

The new aviation world could be crying out for such a facility in the future?

I really hope so, however you can`t allow what traffic you have to be poached by your competitor.
To keep the fanboys happy, the last 2 years have been excellent with fantastic amounts of US Mil
swelling the coffers. However, my worry always was there appeared to be little appetite to go after anything else
and as such all the eggs were in 1 basket.
I hope after the dust settles, this does not come back to bite them!

I hope to god that the deal for the airport goes through at some point and there is some stability about the place, because a you
rightly say, it is a fantastic aerodrome.

But are there enough to sustain the airport?

As far as I am aware those Sam flights would have normally went through Belfast... or does that not fit your agenda ?

I could actually tell you why that business went there, I've heard first hand. But I have better things and smarter people to discuss with.

Yes you are correct it's stalled, but given that some senior management figures don't even know the in's and out's of the proposed sale yet, I find it hard to believe how you could know anything that signifies "The End"

The p8's tend not to book circuits and show up the A400 and C130 didn't do circuits in Aberdeen either I'm told. Unless you have factual record of them specifically requesting circuits and being denied here then again, you make baseless assumptions.

You say I'm immature ? lol... I'll remember your suggestion about the Cessna...when I finish my training as a IR/commercial pilot later this year... Gonna miss those cessna's (although I prefer Pipers and Diamonds) I'm starting to envy the role as expert aviation consultant in the future though, I'm inspired by this thread. Time to fix this abhorrent idea that Prestwick not handle every flight north of the equator. Something must be done about it. Outrageous. Pinchers and secret squirrels assemble

I'm all worn out now, gonna go drool over some Cessnas... lol, can't top that Not gonna reply to any more nonsense you come away with either, got paint to watch drying instead.

Not stooping to your level, but will set the record straight.
The P8 had booked in for 8 touch and go`s 3 weeks ago, but obviously no one had told him he couldn`t do them until he arrived in the circuit
and was given the bad news by the tower controller.
The A400 and C-130 have done touch and go`s at other Scottish and English airports. Google and you will see.
If you are a pilot, i`m sure you`ll have heard of NOTAM`s? There have been many over the past few years re the main runway being closed due to resurfacing work.
You`ve got a lot of growing up to do son if your going to make it professional. I hope you do!

Are they enough to sustain the airport you ask?

Probably..with prudent management and yes..cost cutting.

Whatever..they are in a better position than.....Inverness,Dundee,Carlisle,Newcastle,Leeds,Humbersid e ,Southend,Exeter,Bournemouth,Southampton et al... the ones with no diversification and no real population?

The aviation world has changed forever..so sad...

All the great things listed above are dragged down by white elephant terminal and passenger operation that just doesn’t pay it’s way. Close the terminal. It adds nothing to the balance sheet. Keep the apron but close the 1965 terminal building operating at a fraction of design capacity. Let it go.
