Encouraging news and maybe during Sept the airport will be approaching 50% of daily departures versus last summer, not bad all things considered and without any Med/regional France routes. Loads and yields of course are another matter!

can you please explain what polarising opinions I have? I post nothing but positive stuff about SOU and am merely standing up to a troll. How about some support? If your going to start bullying other posters on this forum who post nothing but positive comments then perhaps you should be the one taking a step back?

A couple of contrasting Eastern Airways updates:
Dublin now isn't bookable until the 28th October, seemingly a victim of the current Irish quarantine situation. However, Belfast City appears to be going double-daily from the 14th September, much earlier than initially planned (26th October).

Personal opinion but they seem the most logical fit until EZY open a base, and SOU have confirmed that they are in discussions in respect of this route (BI an outside bet). Hop of course use to operate the CDG route in one of their previous guises Brit Air, and did so for a while in competition with BE. That was with the CRJ as well, which isn't the best from SOU and they were also moving to the 700/900 models which cannot operate from SOU as far as I know. They now have E170/190s which would be able to operate from SOU, and now with no competition. They operate to ABZ which is another AGS airport and with similar annual passengers on the route.

I'm afraid that I think you're completely delusional if you still think there is any prospect of easyJet opening a SOU base in any form of reasonable planning timeframe. It just isn't going to happen.
For different reasons, I also think the prospect of an AF CDG service is very limited. AF/KL have jointly looked at how best to serve regional markets and in all but the larger markets, they will not be served by both KL and AF as the presence of the other makes the viability of the other less assured. There is only so much hub feed to go around. That's why you have not seen a headlong rush by AF into the likes of Cardiff, Exeter and Southampton despite the loss of Flybe connections to CDG from all three. CWL already has KL and EXT might land one or the other, but unlikely to have both. SOU has just seen a great announcement today by KLM increasing from 1 to 2 flights per day to AMS, which is great news for the airport. No matter how much you think they should, AF are not going to piss on KLM's chips (if you'll forgive the crudity of the statement) by adding SOU-CDG.
Blind hope and optimism is lovely to see, but your posting has lashings of both which are way beyond any bounds of credibility.
[PS: ABZ has both KL and AF. AF presence at ABZ is pretty much on the basis of a corporate contract from Total which is AF's largest corporate customer worldwide and has a big operation in ABZ. Pernod Ricard also is a big AF corporate customer with a few major investments accessed through ABZ. There's a reason it's there.]

At least some one talks some common sense!
The wishful thinking has to stop,Easy no no no!As for CDG ,perhaps Blue island one day,but not this year. It's very difficult to see what other routes SOU will pick up ,certainly it won't be any European ones for a year or two.

I have to agree also with Albert Hall. By all means be optimistic in these depressing days, but delusional optimism isn't worth anything. It will only raise the hopes of some who were previously employed at SOU before buoyancy turns to despair. Leave EasyJet to make its own plans. The reality is that EZY is tightening its belt, closing bases, and reducing its fleet. This is not the time for expansion but for survival. We've got to get through the winter. Getting over this recession is likely to take more than the original prediction of 2-3 years. EZY won't want to invest in a venture that may not work out.

There's more chance of Putin giving up his nuclear arsenal than there is of easy opening a base at SOU, if they couldn't make SEN work in great economic times there's not a cat's chance in hell of SOU working in bad to medium times.

The airport has suggested already they want to attract an airline/s to operate the med routes at the very least which have proved successful in the past. If and when the extension is completed, If not EZY, who do we think said airline would be, maybe the return of Volotea direct or via TUI?

Most airports in the current circumstances want to attract airlines/new routes, whilst at the same time most airlines are consolidating/reducing their bases, Wizz being the exception amongst the LCC's. Realistically, until the sector recovers in 3/4 years, there is very little chance that any LCC would consider a base at Southampton. The best that can be expected may be one or two services operated from other bases on a W pattern. Enthusiasm is one thing, reality is another.

Isn’t it better for SOU to invest in two or three years time rather than right in the middle of this crisis!? What airlines are they banking on now??? They should pause the process.
As for potential airlines, who would come in? Ryanair have already publicly stated they wouldn’t come to SOU. Wizzair could come in but they just announced LGW so doubt it. Plus they are likely to quit super fast if it doesn’t work. Jet2 is shedding pilots. easyJet is CLOSING bases.
If I was an investor in AGS I would NOT be sinking money into SOU right now. I’d be preserving cash to support a smaller operation so I can survive. Then I would consider the extension during recovery. I’m sure SOU can find a way to downsize the operation so it’s more efficient and cheaper for existing operators. Loganair plan to retire their jets and replace with ATR’s so the argument that the runway ext is needed for them is false.
I’d much rather a quality 4 times daily KLM operation in 2021 rather than a single daily easyJet to AMS
