Oh, and watch out for the odd Hercules doing what looked like T and G's this morning and a few days ago, firewalling all four donks and just showing off with some lovely chandelles over Winchester and making a lot of noise which was music to the ears.

Wonderful sight.

Thanks for the correction. I spotted it from some distance away so was wary of my identification.

Post Covid Update v3

Some movement of dates, plus the airport has finally began the slow return to normality with Loganair having started up on Monday...

Aurigny

- Normal schedule now to resume on 01/09 but subject to change.
- 14 weekly flights to GCI and 14 to ACI currently bookable from 01/09.
- 5 weekly 'essential travel only' SOU-GCI to continue as now until then. E195 being used occasionally to keep crew training up to speed and for higher loads as they have apparently picked up recently.

Blue Islands

- Has been an update over the past couple of days. 29 weekly flights to GCI now down to restart from 03/09. 23 weekly to JER due to resume from 20/07.
- 5 weekly (2x Mon and Fri) 'essential travel only' SOU-JER to continue as now until 29/06.
- 4 weekly SOU-JER morning flight is bookable between 29/06 and 20/07. Operates Mon, Weds, Thurs, Fri. Looks as though it is open to all passengers to book at the moment.

Eastern Airways

- ABZ (via NCL), BHD, MAN, NCL services to start from 22/06, LBA from 29/06 and MME now from 06/07. All 5 weekly Mon-Fri only and now all J41 except ABZ/NCL which is on the ER4.
- Full schedule is currently bookable out of SOU from 29/08, with the based J41 operating BHD and MAN getting swapped for the AT7 then (MAN 17 weekly, LBA 15 weekly, NCL 11 weekly, MME 10 weekly, BHD 7 weekly).
- I expect this will be ramped up sooner if demand picks up faster than expected, certainly for the likes of MAN.
- SOU-DUB start date is 23/07. Not bookable yet, nor has a frequency or aircraft type been confirmed.
- Discussion elsewhere including on the Aberdeen thread here seems to indicate Eastern opening a base at SOU from the end of July with both AT7's moving down here, now the Scatsa flying contract has ended for them. From what I understand so far they have been overnighting aircraft and crew from elsewhere. Booking engine does not reflect this yet but that is not to say it won't happen. Hopefully this will be some good news for the former Flybe employees in the area.

easyJet

- SOU-GVA on sale 2x weekly starting back up in December as usual.

Loganair

- Airline seems to have confirmed it's reduced schedule for June and July. Fares are looking high reflecting to lack of capacity available.
- SOU-EDI-GLA and SOU-NCL-ABZ both now operating, all flights on ER4 aircraft. The former is 4 weekly (Mon, Thur, Fri, Sun) until 11/07 when a Sat flight is added making it 5 weekly. The latter stays at 4 weekly (Mon, Weds, Fri, Sun).
- Full schedule currently due to resume from 03/08 (EDI 26 weekly, GLA 25 weekly both on AT7, NCL 18 weekly ER3/4) although this is likely still subject to change.
- Middle seats are blocked out on the booking engine for all flights at the moment.

TUI

- All holidays before 10/07 cancelled.
- SOU PMI bookable from 14/07 onwards at the moment.
- Current expectation is that UK tourists will be allowed into Spain from early to mid July.
- SOU-PMI on sale 2x weekly from May 2021.

I think CV-19 may have got in the way. Hopefully once things start returning to normal there'll be an announcement.

AMS is at full capacity in terms of permitted movements so any slots for SOU would need to come from another, pre-existing service.

Surely the large number of ex-Flybe slots will be up for grabs, among potential others from other airlines cutting back?

Regardless, I thinktthink earliest we may see any developments on the international routes will be the winter season, carriers seem very much focussed on planning and implementing a gradual ramp up and return of their existing networks over the next few months.

Berlin?

A user on Twitter mentioned that they could see Berlin Brandenburg as well as Geneva in the drop down menu when you select Southampton as a departure airport on the easyJet app.

Checked myself and it is true:

Southampton also appears in the drop down if you select Berlin as a departure although nothing is bookable (S20 dates are selectable but that is all).

One interesting thing (and I really don't want to stoke the fire of this tired old debate) is that the same thing shows when you select Bournemouth as a departure airport. Have tried a couple of other UK airports that aren't bases (Inverness, Birmingham) to see if it is a glitch causing Berlin to appear available from all airports in the engine, but it doesn't show from them.

Could be nothing, but may be an interesting one to keep an eye on...

There seems to be quite a few cities from BER in the app which are not currently flown. That said, some of the summer seasonal routes seem to be missing from the app - so maybe something went wrong in setting up the BER data

Bournemouth
Friedrichshafen
Grenoble
Klagenfurt
Rovaniemi
Southampton

So, does Eastern actually work together with the airports they fly to??

Great, booked flights SOU-MME-SOU for July for another business meet in North Yorkshire, July fares only £49 each way, whereas LBA is £100+ o/w
Go to hire a car at MME airport and all rental locations are closed by 18.30 when Eastern Airlines flights arrive - You really cannot make this up...... Huge fail again.

Not having much luck trying to get from the South to the North East lol

Last week my early trains were cancelled at the last minute - So ended up driving up from West Dorset to Yorkshire (5 hours) B&B overnight stay - very nice, lady did me an evening meal - Meeting next morning and I drove back in the afternoon.
Traffic was light still thankfully. Full refund on train tickets.

Not a great surprise, also read yesterday that Eastern are transferring their SOU - MME flight numbers to LHR instead!

It was clear Southampton was struggling pre covid19 ,especially with the demise of flybe. The next 12 months will be critical to its survival.Bournemouth have managed so far to ride the pandemic very well, and with the Sun routes returning slowly ,the airport seems to have a bright future.Southampton runway extension application will surely be further delayed and in fact might never happen. The big question is can Southampton survive on a few domestic routes,I fear not!

Are there any car rental counters open at SOU when the light from MAN arrives early evening? Need to do a business trip to the south coast and into Cornwall over a couple of days in July/August. It is a long way to drive.

Can't answer your question for definite, but I reckon there will be at least one agency open. Might be worth tweeting the airport directly and asking them?
