I guess you will get a much better idea with Easy Jet in mid April when they release the winter schedule again for Geneva and we can properly see how they think it’s going, particularly if they add a Saturday flight which is the key change over day with both the tour operators and general public in the ski season

SEN has had the runway specially grooved I gather - is that so>?
Edit - looking at the spoilers - the SFP allows the spoilers to deflect up to 60 degrees which in the video looks like it....
The Short Field Performance improvement package was developed to allow GOL airlines to operate their 737-800s into the 1,465m (4,800ft) Santos Dumont airport.
The mods enable weight (payload) increases of approx 4000kg for landing and 1,700kg for take-off from short runways.
It includes the following changes:
Flight spoilers are capable of 60 degree deflection on touchdown. This compares to the current 33/38 degrees and reduces stopping distances by improving braking capability.
Slats are sealed for take-off to flap position 15 (compared to the current 10) to allow the wing to generate more lift at lower rotation angles.
Slats only travel to Full Ext when TE flaps are beyond 25 (compared to the current 5). Auto slat function available from flap 1 to 25.
Flap load relief function active from flap 10 or greater.
Two-position tail skid that extends an extra 12cm for landing protection. This allows greater angles of attack to be safely flown thereby reducing Vref and hence landing distance.
Main gear camber (splay) reduced by 1 degree to increase uniformity of braking across all MLG tyres.
Reduction of engine idle-thrust delay time from 5s to 2s to shorten landing roll.
FMC & FCC software revisions.
The SFP package has now become an option on all 737-800NG and standard on the 737-900ER

Yes to new grooving. SOU need to pull their fingers out and get moving with the expansion. Planning submission was supposed to happen early this year and already we are moving towards mid and no word with any momentum being quickly eroded. I appreciate these things take time but a start date of S20 for new runway seems a long way off. Same old SOU I guess!

Ryanair at SOU would be interesting once the airport gets the extension and obstacle clearance.
But to cope with 189 pax the terminal doesn't just need to be expanded it needs to be rebuilt. How would 189 pax squeeze into that tiny departure lounge? Could you imagine if there were delays? They're already bursting at the seems with a handful of 78 seat departures...

I can't imagine where the arrival belts would be relocated to?
I wonder why they don't lift up the roof to create a full second story to allow for air bridges? Or is that prohibitively expensive?

While we wait to see what Flybe’s winter schedule from SOU will look like, and whether Easyjet return and at what frequency, here are the February Flybe/Easy figures to Geneva.
February 2018:
Flybe SOU 62 per flight
easyJet SOU 126 per flight
easyJet BOH 141 per flight
February 2019:
Flybe SOU 48 pf
easyJet SOU 136 pf
easyJet BOH 139 pf
As before, it’s Flybe who appear to be feeling the pinch with big reductions in their passenger loads. BOH not much affected by another increase in easyJet numbers from SOU.

After today’s goings on with BE, who knows what the future will hold for SOU and the airline in general. Looks as though drastic cuts are on their way with redundancies, base closures and fleet reduction all imminent. Safe to say BE are in a sorry state at present and makes it even more important for SOU to crack on with expansion plans ASAP because at the moment they have all their eggs in one basket!

Eastern Airways are to use Embraer 145 on the Southampton to Leeds/Bradford route for next few months while the normal Saab 2000 has being redeployed on charter work.

Assuming this BE crewing issue isn't resolved anytime soon, are more cancellations each day likely to continue into the coming days/weeks?? This would be really bad news for SOU if so.

The Ryanair operation at SEN was a success and according to Expressflight the 737-800 was only using 950m of runway to land. Taking this into consideration, SOU has huge potential for new Ryanair operations. This assumes the airport offers Ryanair the right deal.
This would be game changing for the airport if they actually get the runway extension and resurfacing done and stands that can handle a 737-800. I doubt it will be done by 2020, more like 2021.
One thing is for certain, I certainly wouldn't be trying to protect Flybe at this stage.
