EDIT
the GVA-BOH just landed - well done

Inbound KLM & Flybe EDI and GLA just dep'd - but both JER & GCI delayed
A few minor delays to first arrivals, departures only need RVR 200 to go. SOU 0750 METAR gives RVR 1200 BKN 200 FT. Looks as if by 0930 SOU will have had more scheduled flight arrivals than are expected at BOH all day!

Actually achieved it at 0905.

Think that we've now done the fog thing to death. As I have mentioned in previous posts SOU cannot upgrade the ILS to anything better than CAT 1 due to obstacles. The future hope is introduction of cockpit based systems, such as EVS, that would enable below CAT 1 minima approaches.

Time to move on to a different topic?

That would require expensive operator approval, I can't see many airlines going through that process just to fly into SOU so effectively anything like that will be light years away.

Yes, that was part of the announcement that I saw. Presumably with the infamous "40 knot fogs" of GCI in mind!

Airport Parking

Just dropped son off at Southampton International. We are all regular SOU airport users. Heavy case this time so entered drop-off area rather than the normal Rail Car Park opposite. Ticket says I entered at 1205 and exit at 1208....COST £2. Next week KLM are taking me and the wife to Amsterdam for £22 each PLUS UK air passenger duty £13 each PLUS UK Airport Passenger Service Charge £13.32 each. FLYBE will fly us both back from Dusseldorf for £49.36 each [including all taxes].....however the cost of parking our little car for 4 days at SOU is £68!!!
No wonder the airlines are having a lean time.......somebody is making a mint.

In which case the train link rules (As long as SWR are not on strike, have no delays, cows on the line, and not any engineering works with a RR bus)

Making a mint

Nobody’s making a mint ... you pay peanuts to fly , the airline therefore runs on a tiny profit so can’t pay the airport much so the airport has to cover its costs ( which are extensive... security , ATC etc) so either needs you to shop and eat before the flight or has to squeeze it out of you in the car park.

So from May there will be 6 SOU-GCI flights per day (2 Aurigny, 4 Blue Islands) and 7 on Fridays when BI run 5 flights.

I note a runway evacuation this morning at EXE for a BE E95 to Alicante. Any reason why SOU don’t utilise the Embraer for their trips down south during winter months?

They can't fill an EMB 195 from SOU and/or it has redistricted payload anyway to ALC/AGP going out of SOU??

So does that then make sense to fill a 78 seat Dash...

Flybe fares - what a joke

I need to go SOU-LBA next month

Direct flight is priced from £107 to almost £300 depending on time of day - cabin bags only (fine -short trip)

Go for SOU-BHD-LBA at 07.10 with a quick connex at Belfast the fare is £49 - still beats driving

payload cannot be an issue as they operate full during the hot summer months!

Due to the reduction in operational E95's over the past year, an E95 will transfer to SOU when a DH4 replaces the unit at NQY in late March...

Suspect this is because SOU-LBA is a route operated by Eastern, whereas SOU-BHD-LBA is all Flybe.

Just having a look at January figures to Geneva , if anyone else has more accurate figures please add by all means

4635 passengers used the route
Flybe had 12 flts average 58 pax Easy jet 14 flts ( 13flts last year ) average 115 pax
Flybe averaged 65 pax , Easy jet 110 pax
Flybe averaged 75 pax Easy jet 101 pax

Easy jet slightly down by about 11 pax per flight but nothing serious

So you are just guessing what the numbers may have been on each carrier. In what way is that helpful?

Personally, I think that there should be some concern about the Easy jet figures when you consider that their monthly traffic stats for January showed a load factor across their network at 93% - an average of 101 passengers per flight from Southampton falls far short of that.

agreed, complete hearsay. The q400 holds 78, so why he is suggesting every flight went out with 75 passengers is nonsense. Easy are a lot more appealing for a number of reasons, so must be taking the lion share of the overall figure.

lets not forget the diversions due to fog, presumably those passengers will not show up on SOUs data. At least two flights missing from their data probably.
