SOU put all there eggs in one basket with Flybe many years ago!
Without the proposed limited expansion plans in place the airport could be in for a big decline in pax if Flybe go down .Certainly BOU could and will take full advantage of such a situation, they have the airline(Ryan air) and possibly Jet 2 ,plus most importantly the runway in place to make it all possible.
Certainly things don't look to rosy with Flybe, and SOU needs them more then any other airport!

Don’t disagree RW20 with your comments, hence why I hope they survive. With the planned expansion, this will potentially add a further airline/s that will help to dilute the reliance on BE and open up more destinations and opportunities!

Certainly BOH could and will take full advantage of such a situation
Remind me who the last ailrine was to successfully run a domestic network from BOH?

Southampton is definitely more suitable to UK domestic. easyJet however would probably only be able to offer a maximum of two daily services to the likes of Belfast, Glasgow etc etc so any loss of Flybe would see a reduction in the frequency of services. But given their proximity to LHR is that such a bad thing? As a customer I know I would prefer to fly on a jet than Flybe rickety old turboprops

Nothing rickety about turboprops. In the end it's an aircraft that gets you from A to B.

What percentage of business do Flybe generate at Southampton? 70%? If Flybe went under it'll happen overnight so whatever percentage of traffic Flybe generates at Southampton they'll lose that overnight too meaning substantial job losses. That's goodbye Southampton airport as you know it, it'll basically become another Bournemouth at best. All you lot wishing the demise of Flybe should be very careful what you wish for because your precious little airport needs Flybe as much as Flybe needs it. I reckon you could get at least 600 houses on the site.

One of the more crass and stupid posts I've seen in a while. That's like saying I bet STN would be grateful if Ryanair p*ssed off and stopped hogging all the good slots!!

If it weren't for BE then SOU would probably be nice housing estate by now...be careful what you wish for......

A a customer I know I would prefer to fly on 21st century gas turboprop technology than 1940s Whittle derived gas jet engine.......get up to date in your thinking. There is nothing out of date about modern turboprops, except they lose less money to the banks per flight hour or are you a *anker?

This is never a ‘happy’forum is it on the SOU thread.. Flybe are SOU at present any loss of cut back of frequency is BAD news, there is no spin. The future hopes/dreams of a.n.other are precisely that until there is any announcement or works to the airport to suggest its happening. In the meantime FlyBe haven’t gone anywhere and are facing a dip in their business apparently - that’s all, they haven’t gone anywhere and I hope for all the happy 1m plus cutomers that use their services at SOU they don’t go anywhere either!

Lovin' your work Atmosphere, keep it up!
If anyone fancies a laugh/cringe the Atmosphere website is worth a look.
Wow, that website is gold! Especially the team page! A CEO who's a check-in agent and his Dad as Chairman who's experience includes many hours flying, as a passenger! Beyond laughable/cringe!

There's pipe dreams, and then there's this which takes it to a whole new level!

They do seem to have managed to raise £2000 on a gofundme page though in the last 2 years, just a tad short of their £500m target!

Personally I’d rather have a choice of times to suit my purpose, not leave earlier than I have to or get to stay at the destination longer than is ideal.

But if people like the OP would prefer to sacrifice that to travel on an Airbus, it’s up to them I guess. While I accept a look round the city’s sights at the end of the day to kill time is lovely, it’s somewhat less so when it’s the tenth time you’ve visited that year.

If the worst did happen, surely there’s a big chance both Eastern and Blue Islands would go with them. I don’t know the financial arrangement but I’d guess BE hold a fair sum of income from bookings and they may not have the infrastructure to take their own bookings immediately. I’d question whether either could survive such a shock. Look for example at Coast who took a deadly hit having been a concession in House of Fraser stores.

The guy making claims the loss of BE would be good for Southampton is an idiot, end of.

Some people on hear can't wait to deliver " Bad news "

Some truly ridiculous posts on hear at the moment , no one wants to see anything happen to Flybe or the airport , just think before posting some of you , it's painful reading ......

Sorry MARKEYD but it was Flybe themselves that delivered the bad news in the first place.

Most people I would assume are shocked that they are loss making considering they operate a monopoly from most of the airports they serve and surface transport is damn expensive in this country.

Should we feel sorry for the CEO who perhaps can't get her bosses (the board) to agree with more radical change? It's only radical change that will absolutely be required in order to turn loss to profit in an environment of high fuel and uncertainty and a young population base which can't afford to travel.

I'm with MARKEYD, Flybe did indeed deliver some bad financial news, but the frenzy that they might soon go to the wall, and what might happen at SOU as a result is indeed unseemly and distasteful. As indeed are silly comments about "rickety turboprops".

It seems to me (as a fairly regular user, mostly out of SOU) that Flybe has some great people, a good product that mostly does what's expected, but is hampered by a management that tinkers rather than making the dynamic changes that are evidently needed.

Flybe Ops

I have flown with Flybe and it’s previous incarnations since the 1960’s and have only had a bad experience on one occasion. They definitely don’t deserve the poor press that others give them

BE S19 release of med routes as is, except PMI that for the time being anyway is showing now as one weekly only from July. Maybe EZY 3/4 weekly is more than a rumour!

Very poor pax numbers for Skiathos,so very unlikely that it will continue!
Indeed looking at SOU recent decline in pax figures, things don't look to rosy!
No sign of easyJet PMI,Flybe are going to have to rationalize routes, all in all not the best of times for SOU!!
