This is interesting. Hopefully they will get some codeshares going so it can facilitate the connections through MAN

I think a lot of people are in Dorset that support SOU and use SOU as their local. The two airports are OURS! Same goes for people in Hampshire - we are lucky to have two airports that sort of compliment each other.

Assuming the Blue Islands flights leave early morning, lunch time and later evening, that means theres space in the day for a further two rotations, between the MAN flights. I wonder where this route will be to? Blue Islands do like to utilise their aircraft as much a possible, so surely somewhere is on the cards?

It will be interesting to see how Blue Islands progress, joining forces with a larger regional player would no doubt help them survive and prosper on any new routes from SOU. Whilst there will be competition from T3 on the MAN route, I cant see LM joining forces with T3 due to the very recent battles they've had in the north. This could be a fantastic opportunity for Blue Islands to grow, lets hope not following in the fateful footsteps of JEA...

The most sensible option would be to create some kind of overall brand that then franchises down to the likes of BI and LM with both companies working together to build a sustainable regional network. I cant see Eastern joining this party purely for the historic run ins they've had with LM and continue to do so with the competing routes. LM and Eastern are the equivalent of Blue Islands and Aurigny, anyone familiar with the channel islands knows the huge amount of 'bad blood' between the two companies.

At least in the short term once restrictions are eased, for passengers there will be a great amount of choice and in theory competitive prices, it may end up being a battle of who's pockets are deeper... didnt Eastern recently get bought back by its original owner for a very low sum?

You could call it British Regional Airlines

Post Covid Update v2

Update to my err... update. Since we've had some announcements and more rigid plans on restart dates. Airport has added more information for passengers flying through to its website on precautions and expectations. It has also added a 'pre-register' system so passengers can indicate their expected arrival times, presumably to aid planning the management of traffic flow through the terminal.

Aurigny

- Normal schedule now to resume on 01/09 but subject to change.
- 14 weekly flights to GCI and 14 to ACI currently bookable from 01/09.
- 5 weekly 'essential travel only' SOU-GCI to continue as now until then. E195 being used occasionally to keep crew training up to speed.

Blue Islands

- No updates this week, 29 weekly flights to GCI and 23 weekly to JER due to resume from 29/06. The GCI flights are almost certain to be pushed back based on the Aurigny changes and local Govt strategy which is pretty much eradicated Covid from the island.
- 3 weekly 'essential travel only' SOU-JER to continue as now until then.

Eastern Airways

- ABZ (via NCL), BHD, MAN, NCL services to start from 22/06, LBA and MME from 29/06. All 5 weekly Mon-Fri only and now all J41 except ABZ/NCL which is on the ER4.
- Full schedule is currently bookable out of SOU from 29/08, with the based J41 operating BHD and MAN getting swapped for the AT7 then (MAN 17 weekly, LBA 15 weekly, NCL 11 weekly, MME 10 weekly, BHD 7 weekly).
- I expect this will be ramped up sooner if demand picks up faster than expected, certainly for the likes of MAN.
- SOU-DUB start date today confirmed as 23/07 on the Eastern and airport Twitter accounts. Not bookable yet, nor has a frequency or aircraft type been confirmed.

easyJet

- SOU-GVA on sale 2x weekly starting back up in December as usual.

Loganair

- SOU routes all start/restart from 15/06 - EDI, GLA and NCL all to operate 4-6x weekly late afternoon departures on ER4 aircraft for the first 3 weeks.
- Full schedule currently due to resume from 06/07 (EDI 26 weekly, GLA 25 weekly both on AT7, NCL 18 weekly ER3/4) although this is likely still subject to change.
- Middle seats are blocked out on the booking engine for all flights at the moment.

TUI

- All holidays before 01/07 cancelled.
- SOU PMI bookable from 07/07 onwards at the moment.
- Govt to allow EU tourists by the end of June. Depending on where the UK sits compared to this it does not seem impossible that this may operate from July or August for a (very) short season.
- SOU-PMI on sale 2x weekly from May 2021.

Good reading.
Slow and steady does it.

Oh, and watch out for the odd Hercules doing what looked like T and G's this morning and a few days ago, firewalling all four donks and just showing off with some lovely chandelles over Winchester and making a lot of noise which was music to the ears.

Wonderful sight.

Do we have any clues on announcements for CDG and AMS?

I need to go to Yorkshire asap for a day trip - it is for business
(ATM we cannot stay overnight under the current lock-down rules) and it is a bloody long drive from sleepy Dorset to go for the day, not even gonna go there.

Great, let's fly I thought -

I live fairly local to SOU and wish to use, and support my local airport -
Eastern re-start LBA 29 June.

Very p'''d off to see that although they are now flying again to/from LBA their flight times are totally useless for a day trip - 17.05 departure from SOU.
This will never work for us, so why did they even bother?

OK let's go to LHR -
BA have just announced last week they are dropping their LBA from LHR - An almost continuous link since before my days working at BMA at LHR when we took over the LBA service from BA in 1980. BMA did 4 daily Viscount flights.

Ugh.............

Pretty sure that’s possible as a day trip by train. Direct Kings Cross to Leeds train, just need to get to London first.

Thanks - but that is my problem living in a far away West Dorset, first train and last trains in and out of London with the current timetable.
A drive to LHR is just about OK but as mentioned BA have stopped the LBA route.

- A flight from SOU (I can get there by direct train) or a not too long drive to EXT is OK - but no workable flights...

Er yes....of course -
But we all have to try and get going again and function, as we are being told to.

and SOU is one place that needs to find a new normal as well you know -

But sadly ALL of Eastern's new flights from SOU are simply not going to work with current times - MAN NCL and LBA - none of them are possible for a business day trip - going either to, or from -
Not gonna work sorry. Not sure what Eastern are thinking....

PS
I cannot stay overnight
I do not want to put a car on the road for a 500 mile round trip
I cannot do the trip in a day by train

We do have to all try and get back to working again....You must realise the problems of living not in the centre of London old chap

I do (or did, last time was about 6 months ago) day trips from West Berks to Leeds by train. Easily doable and if you were to drive to somewhere like SOU Airport Parkway and get a fast to Waterloo the overall times would be about the same as mine from the Newbury area into Paddington. KingsX to Leeds is about 2hrs 15min and runs (or did) every 30 mins.

I do realise the 'problem' of not living in the middle of London, having never lived there in my life.
The fact is exactly as you say, we have to try to get back to work - but if it can't be done it can't be done, simple as that. Business trips, just like visiting family or friends, is going to have to wait a bit longer before it returns to the 'new normal.'
I daresay in 6-12 months when things do (hopefully) settle down a bit, regional airlines might well tweak their schedules a bit, but at the moment it is still survival mode for most.

Yes, I can get a train up to LON at about 05.15 to get there for 07.36 for an 08.30 KX LNER train northbound...Thanks

I would have to leave the house at about 04.15 to drive to Bournemouth, or Yeovil but it is doable.

My worry is the high risk of SWR Trains reliability which is shocking - especially so for the first, and later trains of the day.
I have been messed up, cancelled, or stranded far too many times in past few years.

Indeed - I was trying to do the trip ''as simply as possible'' which would be to use my local airport, or even LHR at a push.

Seems though that the new airline & routes from SOU, whilst I wish them well, have sadly structured a time schedule that suits no one trying to get back to businesses as normal.
(well - some sort of normal of course)

I cannot wait 6 months I'm afraid (unless we stay in perpetual lock-down, in which case we and the economy are all pretty much doomed lol)
That's my point.

I can do it on the train up via LON WAT & KX - I can just about take the risk I suppose that SWR will operate on the day without it's usual nonsense.
