Yesterday, 11 Wizz arrivals, 11 Wizz departures, plus one Blue Air in/out. Ryanair seem to have faded to nothing. No other airline operations. Anyone know anything about loads?

Looks like the new Blue Air route to Cluj Napoca will now also operate next summer from Heathrow. Also noted SunEx have applied for 18 weekly Gatwick slots in S21, albeit not approved. At this rate it might only be El Al left besides the based carriers.

Who says, their booking engine doesn't?

They do. Even before Covid they were reducing their presence at Luton

https://www.flyblueair.com/en/gb/int...ing-march-1st/
Starting with March 1, 2021, Blue Air will operate direct flights to 13 key destinations in Europe from Avram Iancu International Airport in Cluj Napoca. The new destinations that will be operated from Cluj are: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Dublin, Hamburg, Cologne, Larnaca, London, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Rome and Stuttgart.

At the same time, Blue Air announces that all flights to London will have London Heathrow as their destination airport, and all flights to Paris will have Charles de Gaulle as their destination airport.

I'll say it again, their booking engine says 1 stop to LHR, LTN remains non stop.

There will be LHR slots for the next couple of summers I would have thought. Formal allocations unlikely but I’m sure there will be plenty out on loan

Its worth noting that BlueAir have taken similar slots in other major European cities - Paris and Frankfurt spring to mind, so you wonder if they have done a deal with someone not just for Heathrow, but across Europe.

Will all depend on EU waver of 80/20 rule which I think is due to expire on 27/03/21. If that does not get pushed back then a few airlines might be happy leasing slots to other airlines, but for how much?

Judging by the news yesterday, probably healthier than STN and LGW. Around 800 - 1,000 pax a day (arriving and departing) I'm told.

We leave the EU next month and so we should be free of the tentacles of the EU telling us of what we can or can’t do within the U.K.

Except we are likely to see business as usual for next 5-10 years to get an exit agreement.

Luton seems to be in Tier 2. At least some of the airport hotels and airport restaurants can now officially open for families as it was looking like Luton was heading for Tier 3 due to rising cases despite the lockdown. Whether any do open is another matter.

Hoping for better times.

I saw that and they had a pax departures information board in background and one of the flights was a TOM to Stansted so just a positioning flight.

LTN’s bread and butter are the flights to Eastern Europe otherwise Luton would be another Gatwick. Not many flights on some days but consolidations means on some flights Ryanair and Wizz are packing them in. The word is that they are expecting good numbers both ways either side of Christmas and New Year despite the quarantine restrictions.

The mid term and Long term car parks are closed again with only the CTA multi-storey parking open.

Someone showed me this story where a councillor claims expansion is now only a distant dream. It also reports that after conducting an in-depth investigation into airport pollution the local council rejected 15 of the 19 recommendations in their own report.

The number one and number two pollution spots for pollution monitors in Luton was the front of the terminal and the drop off zone before it moved indoors. I don’t know what the results were for 2019 since the move.

I assumed that had been discounted as FR24 showed two commercial flights in and two out. I believe the Chelsea team also travelled so even if split between departures only and you discount STN that’s still only an average of 33 assuming the team travelled through the terminal.
