Amazing to think that the 737 Type Certificate (of which the 737-8 section now accounts for about 60%) is only a few months short of 50 years old.

The March 8th update is Revision No 58 to the TC.

And how the world has changed from the days when Pan Am or other prominent airline would be the launch customer.

This really just proves how mature aircraft technlogy has become. If one thinks about it, the most radical design change large jet aircraft underwent since the B-47 first flew in 1947 was the addition of winglets. Most of what is current state of art aircraft configuration is based on windtunnel testing done at Braunschweig during WWII.

And before we know it the B737-10X will be available.

Boeing recently released a statement saying the B737 replacement is approx. 15 years away.

B737 first flight April 1967 (entered service February 1968).
What did airliners look like in 1917? (50 years before B737's first flight 50 years ago)

The interesting thing is that the airline that did so much to shape this latest iteration and handicap any meaningful upgrade were not the first to receive one.

May we assume you are talking about the same airline that screwed the NG?

Sorry. There was an old guard that resisted change. It's getting better now, but unfortunately the damage is done.
