Did the inaugural flight to Lux today (was meant to fly this morning but cancelled... )Luckily we had booked to fly back tomorrow night anyway so just lost an afternoon.

Load was good on the ERJ-175 and had the water cannon and campaign on arrival which was nice.

Seems FR are to start soon to LUX too so seems to be getting much more connected!

Very cheered up by the idea that Flybe is (according to the article) an "airline giant"!

I have recently taken the new Flybe route MAN-LYS for a weekend trip - a fantastic addition to the network and a great improvement on either flying into GVA or connecting via BRU/FRA/AMS/LHR Only real frustration was that no online checkin is offered ex LYS meaning that even with cabin baggage only you have to queue at a solitary desk in LYS to get a BP.

I wrote to Flybe and congratulated them on the new route but also made the point that the lack of OLCI may well reduce the route's attractiveness to business pax... There reply was that the reason they don't offer the facility is that it is not offered by LYS. This I know to be untrue as I have used on other carriers.

So I can't think why they'd not want to offer it... Is there a cost implication on airlines at all?
You can't check-in online at TXL either with Flybe but can with other airlines. Must be something to do with the airport relationship as have used OLC at other German airports such as DUS and HAJ with Flybe

Probably has to do with the handling agent at each airport. I remember that SAS had some odd OLCI procedures for certain airports through the handling agent website rather than its own website.

East Midlands to Belfast city.

Does anyone know why the normal four flights a day between East Mids and Belfast city are being scrapped on Sundays and Mondays from the winter schedule? is this an error? Always busy when I'm on it.

No, certainly is not an error. The Runway will be closed for resurfacing between 20:00 on Saturdays and 20:00 on Mondays for seven weeks starting 5th November. It's preferable to nightly closures in order to reduce the impact on EMA's cargo operations.

Interesting quote in WalesOnline from Roger Lewis of CWL on the day of the CWL-LCY launch. He basically said he'd like a further piece of the BE pie at CWL, and sounds more than just aircraft and routes to me.

He mentions that BE are based down at EXT, and believes that Cardiff can get in on the action and potentially move their operating base/MRO facilities to CWL. How feasible is that exactly ? Sounds a strange comment to bring up if something wasn't going on behind the scenes ...

That's it then, looks like they want to move to CWL.

Why do Flybe want to leave Exeter and move to Cardiff ? A lot of people will be reluctant to move home which means a fair degree of staff churn - such a move needs to be financially very advantageous for a company to benefit after everything is considered

It's just something that the quote from Roger Lewis of CWL has sparked up during the LCY launch. Interesting times, but as you say the logistics of any such move would be rather large indeed.

Does Exeter form part of an Enterprise Zone?
I would imagine that the Welsh Government would provide some £££ towards enticing Flybe operations/MRO to South Wales similar to Aston Martin.

I have seen the article which includes a comment from Cardiff Airport Chairman mentioning that he would like to entice them to Cardiff.

One option could be that Cardiff Aviation to provide the MRO (St Athan) /Training (Cardiff Airport) and maybe Operations being built near Cardiff Airport or in Cardiff City Centre (Another enterprise zone).

Remains to be seen what exactly BE will be offered to move to CWL or Cardiff City Centre, but as you say MathersWales it will probably be £££ with incentives from the WG due to being in the Enterprise Zone.

Roger Lewis said that BA has thrived at CWL, so there would be no reason why BE wouldn't (his theory not mine). Just a bit of a logistical nightmare, and of course whether BE would accept.

With it would probably be more based aircraft at CWL i imagine.

I think it's just airy fairy small talk. Too much is being read into his comments. All he's said is he'd like a piece of the flybe pie and would love them to move to CWL. He didn't say there were talks or anything of the like, just his pipe dream of what he wants to see happen. As with everything of this nature, time will be the biggest teller if there's anything more in it.

It's just a Welsh wet dream. There is no way that BE will be leaving Exeter...I note that the other protagonist is from NQY...you've got 0 chance. EXT does well for BE and they essentially have the airport to themselves. CWL is only a base thanks to the "support" offered by the Welsh government. The loads don't look that impressive and given the way that Flybe price their flights that means that the yields will be pretty poor as well. Let's hope the Welsh have deep, deep pockets!!

Has MAN-RTM been reduced in frequency?

Had an email today saying that my return flight had been bought forward from 21.30 to 10.40... only snag being I'm coming in that morning for a day trip to attend meetings - so from 11 hours in NL I'll get 30 mins (!)...

I've asked for a refund...
