Everything is dooable !

But there is only cost no benefit!

Manchester isn't in the business of providing a profit for other agencies or companies, it is there to earn money itself.

No profit
No investment
The end

I did hear a rumour the other day however that T2 is to be completely demolished. Hard to believe.
Turin, you are correct. The image LAX_LHR posted was indeed Option 5 of 6 considered at the feasibility stage of MAN-TP. One of the drawbacks of this particular design was the lack of a dual Code E (B777/A330 etc) taxiway system. The retention of stands in front of the cargo sheds meant only enough room for a dual Code C taxiway system along the terminal (B737 / A321, and just visible in the image). This was found in simulations to be inadequate for the volume of large aircraft now using MAN and thus the adopted Option 6 was modified to include a dual Code E taxiway. Developing on the basis of Option 5 is not currently a working project but clearly going for a continuous linear extension through the current T1 footprint is an attractive option and becomes more feasible once T1 has been replaced by the expanded T2 next decade.

And as for T2 being completely demolished, that would only happen if someone is very careless with a wrecking ball as West Pier comes down!

Navpi, I think you answered your own question in that post yesterday. A, B, and C are all in evidence today and will almost certainly continue to be a big part of traffic growth in the next few years - smoothing out the peaks.

I arrived at 08.10 on the 25th. The lack of contact stands at T2 is really apparent. The airlines and ground handlers need to think about their provisions, it took 35 mins from arriving on the stand until I was in the immigration line, a single stair on an A333 is not a good setup. Immigration wasn't to bad, even the non-UK/EU line was fine, and this is with two A330s a 787 and a 747 arriving in relatively close order. Baggage reclaim was a bit of a mess as it seems about half of the belts are now out of use and we had multiple wide-body flights on each belt.

Several airbridges are being removed in order for the building works to progres, use of stairs is the handing agents job and I`m sure someone can confirm or deny and not preferential
for use of rear stairs.

I see Air Canada/Rouge are trying to make American Airlines on time performance look good again this year. Problem seems to be with departures from MAN - of the 10 flights so far this season 6 inbounds have touched down no more than 5 minutes late, but none have left on time. Note that I am looking at airborne times, but have allowed 15 minutes taxi time. 3 have made up the time by the time they land back in Toronto, but pretty poor overall so far.

I should declare a vested interest - I'm using them to get to Winnipeg in 3 weeks time, and am increasingly glad that there are 2 more Air Canada flights to Winnipeg after the one we are supposed to connect onto! By my reckoning, using Air Canada's advertised minimum connection time at Toronto of 1h15 we would have missed 7 out of 10 connections! Fortunately it is a proper end to end booking, not a self-connect so assume they will just stick us on the next flight.

I was aware why we were at the remote stand; though it did seem to take the crew by surprise. Not an issue, only raising it as it will be much more common for the next few years. Yes, it is the ground handling company that provisions the stairs, under direction from their client. As for rear stairs not being preferential. This isn't an issue with an A333 as you have two forward doors. I have disembarked from another A333, same company, different site, using both the L1 and L2 doors via stairs, we only used L2 this time. The only difference is that you need an extra set of stairs and an extra staff member (at most) to man the other stairs, no issue with walking the wrong way or under the wing.

That's good because you're not allowed to!

I can fully undestand MAG'S stance in utilising every last stand to maximum effect although I would exercise a degree of caution.

If Manchester can be seen to be a major conduit of economic prosperity in the same way as Heathrow is there not a more significant opportunity to draw in taxpayer investment in the same way that Heathrow has done ?

Heathrow is rightly or in some minds wrongly viewed as a "national asset", this enables the potential of government investment with little resistance, maybe MAGs clarion call s/b a similar message ?

If MAG is seen to look beyond its own balance sheet might they reap the benefits of more government support especially if they explain in detail the benefits of inward passenger flows across the wider region and beyond.

I would still be nervous with the view that the airlines see Manchester as so investable that they will come at any cost and at any time. There are lots of competing opportunities see Jet2 STN and RYR and its developing hub concepts!

Whilst away movements fill up gaps this cannot be compared to the benefits of an additional based aircraft in the morning and the knock on effect of 3 x per day 7 days a week.
A dozen extra stands to compliment TP is surely needed ?

I do feel from the outside looking in that
Heathrow is thee airport for London, but maybe with no rw3 Manchester should start re branding itself as the airport for the rest of the UK ?

If that is the case "sweating the assets" may be somewhat outdated.

Ps The new aviation minister doesn't appear to know about Manchester doubling capacity. Is this not where Manchester fails to be heard ?

http://www.travelweekly.co.uk/articl...business-model

Looking at this airlines website, seems to offer some very random dates for travel, but also, the flight times seem to make no sense.

AEA211 ACE 0805 MAN 1220
AEA212 MAN 0300 ACE 0715
Thu

So, not only a mega early departure ex-MAN, but, looks like the aircraft is positioned in to Manchester, which can't be cheap considering they aim to be cheaper than the competition.

But this is the one that really confuses:

AEA243 TFS 0700 MAN 1125
AEA244 MAN 0525 TFS 0955
Fri

So, this seems to indicate one aircraft positions to MAN, then operates MAN-TFS. Then a completely different aircraft operates TFS-MAN before positioning out. Seems a rather convoluted way of operating the flights? Again, can't be a cheap way of doing it?

Now, unless the aircraft is MAN based, but then Lolo only has a few flights, certainly not enough to keep a based aircraft busy, and can't see an W patter flights to explain the MAN origin of the flights.

Wierd.

Seems MAN is still in the frame for a Kuwait flight, but, this is the first time I've seen it reported in main stream media with a direct quote from the CEO:

The additions, which may also include new service to Seoul, Manchester, Sarajevo or airports in China, Morocco and Saudi Arabia, are part of a wide-ranging restructuring as Kuwait Air aims to return to profit and lure more high-end customers, Chairman Sami Al-Rushaid said in an interview.

BA increasing from 8 to 9 daily Mon-Fri, and from 8 to 10 daily on Fridays this winter.

There will be 2 night stoppers too as first LHR-MAN arrives MAN 0815 but 2 departures before this time.
That's the same winter schedule they always use, so not an increase on last year.

To compare MAN with RHO is probably not a true reflection, we spent 95 minutes checking in last night and 10 minutes scanning bags. The temperature in the departure hall was approx 35c. Arrival at MAN was easy the only thing was the walk from the aircraft to T2 as it was very wet. We are very lucky to have such a great facility on our doorstep
Cheers Sam

If those Microsoft jobs are from the Thames Valley that would be highly significant!

Article not clear on that but yes it could be, the company will be talking to the airlines through it`s business agent to do any deals needed for staff travel.

They're not, they're surely local. In a market so competitive for talent, they'd lose too many key staff by making them shift out of the SE to Manchester. Linkedin would be on fire in that space and it's not. It's only a 100 staff office, that's pretty small, so nothing major, certainly unlikely to be filling the front end on a regular basis going West. Virgin Trains on the other hand.... Depends what division, if it's Azure, there could be no reason to travel to US at all.

I only ask as another forum suggested they were in Regus at Airport City.

If they are relocating 10 mile its hardly a boost for "Manchester".

This is OT, but if a relocation it's a case of "as you were". This may increase headcount, but while U.K. airport connectivity is predominately in the south east Microsofts UK HQ will (quite rightly IMO) remain in Reading.
