British Airways re-launches a big new network from Manchester. Or does it? | The Independent

Unlike Small Planet if a BA E190 went tech back up would come up from LCY pretty quickly. I can't see BA screwing up what amounts to a new base and new routes. Over the years BA's service has deteriorated, I can't see their reliability going down the pan as well.

But doesn't LCY shuts for 24 hours from midday on Saturday, so better not go tech during that period or they won't be able to send in reinforcements.

LCY does shut but one would have to check the detail. For example, is the restriction simply on operating passenger flights? Could BA therefore send up an empty plane? I don't know...
Also note that other E190's are being sent to other places to do similar things so how many would be left as backup?
Would it actually be the case that BA would put people on the next shuttle to LHR and then on from there to their destinations? How many of the destinations are now served from LHR? I'd guess all?

Remember that BACF don't just use LCY-based a/c for these services. Last year they brought 2 back from Zurich and Geneva to EDI each w/e. I'm sure they will keep a reserve a/c somewhere accessible.

I believe for summer 2016 they had a spare aircraft at GLA as they can have 5/6 their for the weekend charter work.

The airport operating licence discourages the parking.
Practically no line maintenance is done on station because of the environmental risk to the dock and river.
BACF move many/most up to Edinburgh and Glasgow for mx and weekend parking.
This is the core of the weekend charter and the summer MAG schedules are drawn.
Some also over stay in Berlin Frankfurt and Switzerland whilst deep maintenance takes frames of to Warsaw .
The Berlin frame makes it way to Stansted for the weekend
Geneva frames frequently position up to Scotland where they also enter the weekend holiday services both charter and summer schedules .
BTW many of BACF staff actually reside up in Edinburgh anyway.
LCY operating license and the planning agreements with Newham requires total closure 12.30 Saturday to 12.31 Sunday.
its strictly enforced and late Saturday arrivals find themselves at either SEN/STN or LGW.
London covers an area similar to Liverpool to Leeds, the Powerhouse has a myriad agencies within a similar geographic area who might all compete for the business against each other, so where do you go to to see the best deal ?

I see some of the morons banned previously have rejoined under new names. Cant we get rid of these tedious s once and for all? Very few want to talk about politics and the north/south divide on here.

I see you've put in one of your rare appearances TC to post your usual negative and unpleasant comments.
The last post I've read (which I assume was one you were referring to) was about how better to promote the North as a whole rather than different segments doing their own thing to improve business opportunities, which is relevant to Manchester Airport,
I didn't see it as a North-South divide issue or playing politics.

LEI = Almeria
Don't forget that it's only the westbound service which stops in Europe, eastbound if direct from JFK to Pakistan. It's a tech stop but PIA sells tickets on the MAN/LEJ - JFK leg of the journey. So if LEJ gets the stopover, you'll be able to fly directly to JFK but will need to take a connecting flight to get back home.

However, you are not "whiter than white". I, amongst many others, have been on the receiving end of your "criticism" in the past, including on other forums such as Plane Mad.
You can run but you cannot hide, Turtlecontroller.
