Norwegian will have up to 39 weekly flights next summer, up from the current 17 weekly that's currently bookable.

Palma and New York (latter on and when the max arrives) with extra flights to Oslo. The other routes are down as BLL/GOT but Norwegian always apply for BLL/GOT to mask the true destination so it's a wait and see.

Any ideas what their plans for Edinburgh are?

Is SQ confirmed for 350's in January, as I am looking at booking and still shows 77W up to May?

No official date announcedfor SQ downgrade to A350. Just "sometime in 2017".

Have SQ introduced a new interior for the A350?

Have flown the 350 in Economy+ and Economy. The interior is the latest, similar to the updated 77W that they had on the MAN flights, not the ones presently used. The overheads seem to be bigger than the 77W and is certainly a lot quieter. It is not as quiet as the upstairs on the 380, but pretty close to downstairs. It reminds me of the 343 Celestar and 345 in terms of noise value on SQ.

Just don't choose a seat in the rear 5 rows in the centre of EY on the A350, there's no overhead stowage!

I though Flybe already had a codeshare with SQ since the IAH route started from MAN?

Afaik none of the EY A350s are in final assembly yet (EIS late 2017). I presume you mean SQ's 350s right?

all 350-900's are the same, at the moment at least, we tried to get it changed but airbus can't as it is the emergency escape from the rear crew rest area!

Manchester Airport director calls for direct flight to Japan - Manchester Evening News

Direct to Japan? Used to be an argument that Japanese tourists never went further north than Stratford-upon-Avon but is there now sufficient business to support a route?

Noteworthy that S......i is no longer mentioned.

Betablockeruk, its only anecdotal but if you travel up to the Lakes regularly by train you may be surprised to see how many Japanese tourists visit the area. Also there are quite a few Japanese tourists visiting Manchester. One area that will prove to be big for them assuming it gets the go ahead is the NuGen new nuclear power project that will be built next to Sellafield. It will be the largest UK nuclear power plant ever and is due for a final investment decision in 2018 but early work is underway. NuGen is part owned by Toshiba and it's HQ is in Manchester, Piccadilly so I would expect to see many Japanese technicians etc. coming across. As I said I don't know whether the numbers stack up but with tourism and business I wouldn't be surprised to see a Japanese link in the not too distant future. Its also (with India) the only large wealthy economy that remains unserved from MAN directly. With Indian demand met from the Midlands (BHX)due to cultural ties I would see Japan as a likely contender for the next Eastern long haul.

DomyDom, MAN has direct to Goa but I get your point re:India. We could do with direct to one from Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore ideally.

Ryanair will be 9 based for next summer but August sees the usual increase to make MAN 10 based for the summer peak.

Thanks DomyDom. Appreciate the very informative answer.

Looking forward to either ANA or JAL 787s soon then.

Take Two Steps to the East, aaaannnd relax!

Yes, Japan would be a good fit both economically and for leisure travel in both directions. Someone mentioned the Lake District, witness the numerous Japanese tourists flocking to visit Wordsworth's and Beatrix Potter's homes year round, they have signs and books in Japanese at many places in the Lakes. And we drive on the correct side of the road for them, too.

Whilst Japan is rightly an aspiration, I would be a little concerned right now about the lack of progress to secure a Shanghai route after it looked to be in the bag around the time of the Hainan launch in the summer. Various senior people suggested publicly that it would commence shortly, but there has been no announcement for 2017. Plus the fact that all the applications were for China to London services in the recent open skies deal. We have taken two steps forward in the Easterly direction over the past 12 months, we may now be in a pause rather than one step back.
