Quite right Logohu. Wise to be cautious unless and until finally confirmed.

"The airlines were expected to make an announcement and open reservations for the Detroit - Manchester this month although it is understood that the final go-ahead has been delayed until the impact of the Brexit referendum result and the UK's departure from the European Union will have on demand is better understood"

MAN-LUX

The new Flybe twice daily Luxembourg is reduced to a daily service (before it even starts) - the on line timetable hasn't been updated yet, but it's now only bookable once a day.

Is there a link to a new MAN-DTW service?

I don't see it happening. I will happily eat my hat if it does materialise.

Seems to be twice a day from October

It seems it may be aircraft issues as LuX is one daily in Sept but back to the full 12 weekly from 1st October.

I wouldn't go as far as to say 'your eat your hat if it does materialise', the aviation industry is a strange one for example who would have believed that MAN would have gained a Houston link by Singapore Airlines so a MAN-DTW isn't as far fetched as you make out!

I would suggest you buy en edible hat though.

Since I posted my earlier reply ironically enough there has been a press release by Delta and Virgin on RoutesOnline.

Although I can't supply the link at the moment and I am sure something else on here will but I suggest you go and eat that hat of yours!

Canberra

Despite trawling Delta, Virgin , and Routes Online I cannot see anything additional to firm up what Routes published this morning.

Could you track down the updated link you have referred to OR point the rest of us to its origin. Many thanks.

Bagso, I suspect it's just the RoutesOnline article that's being referred to, not an additional press release by DL/VS

Your correct it was the RoutesOnline article I was referring to as I had only read it shortly after I posted my first reply.

Can anyone provide a link? Perhaps I'm bieng stupid, but I cannot see any link on Routes Online, nor a press release from VS/DL.

I just don't believe it for a second. Why would VS/DL announce this now, post-Brexit?
- DL have announced capacity cuts to the UK this winter- it hardly seems they would be bursting to add more capacity next summer.
- VS already has new routes to BOS and SFO, with upgauged JFK. They need to fill this first.
- MAN-US flying is more dependent on UK POS, especially leisure, which will be harmed by the weak pound. It's a lot of new capacity.

Like I said earlier, I'll believe it when I see a press release from DL/VS with start dates and frequency! Before that it's just wishful thinking and I'd love to see more capacity from MAN to US

"MAYDAY, MAYDAY"

For those interested in such matters @andybounds has done an extensive piece regarding the Chinese and the #NorthernPowerhouse in the FT.

Thank God somebody "gets it".

No doubt "at some stage" a light bulb will go on at the M E N, Yorkshire Evening Post etc.

Make no mistake the impact on Manchester Airport could be catastrophic!

In the space of a few days Theresa May who I had high hopes for given lots of chitter, chatter re equality etc appears to be single handedly dismantling all the good work and momentum which the previous administration had built up in terms of investing in The North and working with key Labour administrators.

OK there was no Westminster money, realise that, but we did at least get the Chinese premier here and that must surely have influenced Hainan.

Before the "regionalist snipers" appear , it wasn't just "A Manchester Thing" only this week Sheffield was handed a £1bn Chinese investment deal , thee largest ever outside London ! Yes Sheffield in Yorkshire.

One could be tempted to say to Messrs May, Hammond etc

"what the hell are you doing".

George wasn't everyone's cup of tea and yes it was all rhetoric and zero money, but we gained more in 3years under his influence and his work "with Labour" than the previous 30 as investment was starting to build from other areas. A 64 storey scaper in the City centre, second tallest building in the UK is testament to the city's swagger and construction opportunities!

The board at Manchester Airport must be apoplectic at this turn of events!

There is zero to be gained from dismantling one policy in a fit of pique, simply because you don't like a fellow MP, it is quite another replacing that policy with your own initiative.

... I assume there is a policy replacement turning downwind , isn't there?

Chris,

What flavour hat would you prefer, given the anecdotal evidence to suggest this route is happening?

The route appears on the virgin website in the destinations section, routes online have an article and handling staff at MAN have been told of the route.

Paper hat may be more edible, as it would be a shame to see you suffer a top hat or trilby?

One Hundred feels Grand

Seems to have gone unreported so far, MAN did indeed pass the 100,000 pax in a day mark last Friday. The total was around 100,600 off 649 ATMs (GA not included). I believe this to be the busiest ever day in the terminals barring the 2003 Champions League Final, which was a one-off event.

'Hundred Grand' days will become commonplace in the next year or two. Equivalent to a years worth of throughput at BOH in just a week, to give some idea of the difference in scale across MAG's portfolio.

Man2NYC: Beat me to it! However, the article relates to a "possible" route and includes terms such as "if launched" and other such caveats. So, not exactly a nailed-on certainty. Yet.

For me l hope the DTW/MAN route does become firm, its a great airport to clear through, JFK and ATL are so busy these days, l travel between Florida and my home town of MAN monthly, l'm a million miler on Delta but never use the direct VS service. l am lucky enough to have enough miles to upgrade into "Upper" on business but on the VS non stop its full of kids running around, just not a nice quiet business cabin, so l welcome DTW it will certainly get my bookings.
