The meet and greet has begun construction, and is quite a large site.
I assume this is demolition of the old hangars to build more staff parking. I'm sure I read this doesn't require planning permissions due to being covered by permitted development?

As LAX_LHR has said, these are the old hangars that have no apron/taxiway access and have not been used for any aircraft maintenance for at least 20 years. The old Dan-Air hangar that is now used by Flybe will remain.

Flybe have not used the east end of hangar 4 for some time. The MAPLC garage re-located from hangar 4 into it last year at some expense with the west apron directly in front being used for equipment parking. The remainder of the building is sparsely used.
Hangar 3 is in very poor condition and has pretty much been condemned.

The Masterplan suggests that the hangers are moved back longer term, presumably via demolition and new build, to allow for wider taxiways into and out of T2. Seems a bit early to be cracking on with that but parking cars there in the interim is a good use of the space I guess.

I hope they will be improving the road junction on to the A538 there. It's bad enough pulling out to make a right turn now, but if there's a long queue at shift change it'll be gridlock!
Ouch!
May I be the first to say "OOPS!" On behalf of VY.
According to GDS and the website, Air Canada is replacing Rouge with AC mainline product to Toronto this summer - but apparently only for 3 weeks in July !
Flights kick off this Friday with 3 weekly Rouge service AC1930/1. Then from 03-24 July the flights change to AC842/843 (AC's previous MAN flight numbers from way back when) operating 5 weekly and using mainline 763 aircraft with AC Business class available. From 25 July Rouge AC1930/1 service returns at 6 weekly for the rest of the peak summer season.
Anyone know if this is some sort of test of the MAN market or (more likely) just a change of equipment/brand to meet a temporary operational or maintenance need ?

The market for this will be interesting. It could quickly go from being unserved, to served by three airlines. VS are due to start next summer (low frequency) and it is expected that Norwegian will do likewise.
Do we have any information on the Los Angeles flights are doing?

The Y and J fares are more less the same as Rouge ones so more likely an operational change.
The Rouge fares might be "similar" but the service isn't.
Had I known, I might have booked on it- but too late now for me.
Not sure what AC are up to, they indicated a longer season than previous, but it's ended up almost the same, late start/ early finish, probably at the expense of the enhanced Dublin offerings this year.

Interesting stuff Pinhead, where have you heard the rumour and how credible is it?
Even more interesting is that I've learned that NokScoot have recently opened offices on Portland Street in Manchester.
MAN is going all out to get its '25 long haul routes', Bangkok is on there so, could they have given NokScoot a good offer?
