I can assure you EK is holding 56 slots per week. Whether they hand them back in January is another thing, but, they do hold 56 slots. This information is lifted direct from the co-ordination report.

EK MAN flights-a very enlightening thread

To my knowledge Man is not an unpopular route with EK, although I agree that some PAX I have seen in Business Class have supported the bar manfully on the 380 for most of the flight, but with no issues I was aware of ! I do agree also about some CC on the sector (my worst EK fight was with some CC from a city just down the M62 who's service was poor on this route, with the same issues as those raised on Flyertalk but in Business Class) but have to say, as a rule with that one exception, I find them OK and helpful. In general I think the idea of service is not a great British thing, and as a large generalisation I do not think it is one of the things as a nation we are good at particularly. I know from experience service standards do seem to improve when the crew are from countries where there is more of a customer service culture, and by that I do not mean just the Far East. I am with them again in a couple of days so will check on the comments re Man route for you.

Routes online is just catching up with the news, it's been in the Qatar booking engine for a long time that the B77W would be used until end of December.

Route Development
Does anybody know please if Japan is on the airport's "to do" list?
Best routing seems to be with Finnair but both JAL and ANA seem to have a fair
few 787's between them now and I'd have thought we could support a direct flight though maybe not daily...
Any rumblings?

Reference the earlier post regarding an additional rotation to Murcia being added, it also appears that further rotations have been added to Gerona (add a Wednesday service, now operating 3 x weekly) and to Palma (add a 4th Monday departure, will now be operating 22 x weekly departures) from early July.
These 3 additional frequencies will take Jet 2 over the 200 x weekly departures for the Summer 2016 peak (202 x weekly currently)

Air China gets regulator green light for new Shanghai ? Manchester route :: Routesonline

It is understood that Air China plans to inaugurate a four times weekly schedule between Shanghai and Manchester from as early as March 25, 2016 with reservations opening at some point in the middle of January. A tentative schedule shows the aircraft, an Airbus A330-200, departing Shanghai mid-morning on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and arriving in Manchester early evening. The return flight will depart the UK late evening, arriving back in Shanghai the following afternoon.

Leakage
Do we have the latest leakage figures for destinations not served.
The ones often quoted are from 2011, clearly since then MAN has enjoyed multiple frequency increases via the MEB plus larger capacity aircraft. Whilst there is transfer from other airlines the MEBs appear to have generated a lot of additional demand. Is that what SAUDIA, THY , Hainan, Air China are looking at in terms of expansion ?

This article in Flight Global talks about the expanding CX fleet and future growth. MAN isn't mentioned specifically (Amsterdam and Milan are).
Any indication yet as to whether we might see that hoped for upgrade to a daily service and when?

"350 was due in 2016" They already have 5 built, 2 have been painted 3 more are out of FAL and a 6th in production. All 6 will be delivered in 2016. There are minor delays due to cabin furnishing production delays but to say major reshuffling is happening is a little excessive. I suspect they have other more profitable expansions ahead of MAN that's all.

Either way MAN probably won't go daily for a while sadly but it will still probably happen.

Although it was rumoured that MAN would be one of the first A350 destinations, comments on other forums about CX expansion plans might suggest that MAN has gone down in the pecking order. There is also talk of CX returning to LGW with a A350-900, (as there is of LGW getting a 4th daily EK flight in the immediate future rather than MAN). Whether there is substance in all that we shall have to wait and see.
There has certainly been no shortage of passengers on our CX services with LFs of between the low 80's and 96% but we don't know what yields are like.
It would also be interesting to know the final destination or origin of those pax and the proportion attributable to mainland China. Will Hainan and Air China have much impact on CX, or are the latter's pax more related to Australasia or other parts of the Far East? And is one of the main benefits of new non-stop services to generate new business that would otherwise not use MAN?

You are correct HOODED the problem is not with the a/c but what goes inside. I've heard 2 month wait after the first delivery, which has thrown things quite a bit. The problem then becomes crew training.
MANFOD I can't comment, secrecy and all that! It'll all come out in the wash eventually, but it has all put MAN back a bit for sure.
