Diversions
BDLBOS In 2006 the airport reported 22-4 million passengers on 230000 movements and in 2014 22-0 million passengers on 163000 movements, so we are not in the state you think regards space.
Back in 2006 everything was fine, wages were good contracts fine, terms and conditions ect. Then the slow spiral of descent, wages slowing, terms and conditions ripped up companies folding short term contracts ect.
Boss...I know we have stuffed you over the last few years but can you work a little extra today-we may have a few diversions
Serfs and surfeses.... sorry taking kids to the park going for a pint, walk ect. That's partly my take on the current situation
cheers Sam

MAN is a very competitive airport for all the HA's with at least 6 all in the pot, by comparison LPL(1), BHX(3), LBA (1+ Jet2 self handling), EMA (2+2) and so on.
Aother thing to bear in mind is that MAG own STN, BOH & EMA which all take a good share of diverted flights, so the profits eventually all go in the same pot without MAN causing itself any issues.
Looking to this mornings MAN long haul arrivals out of 25 only 4 were behind schedule, the rest were early with at least 4 ahead of schedule by an hour or more. The HA's have the absolute minimum of staff and equipment to service their contracts, this is not as acute in other airports where there is less competition.

Well, the front page can be held, MAN accepted a divert from LBA tonight.
Was the notam not re-issued at midday Tuesday? I just wonder if it was our actual foggy weather and the continuing forecasts, perhaps combined with the other issues mentioned, that was the key reason for the decisions. As I recall, the notam on Sunday which expired at 12.00 wasn't renewed until 17.00 and the weather had improved a bit - although not to the extent forecast - during that time. Likewise, yesterday the original forecast was that the fog would persist for part of the morning but it actually lifted before dawn.
Are there any major taxiway restrictions affecting ops currently. which add to the difficulties in bad weather?
Just a thought. And I know other airports such as BHX and LGW accepted diversions in poor conditions.

MANFOD, the NOTAM Sunday was renewed at 1259, 59 minutes after he previous one expired.
MAN did also receive another diversion last night, at 2300, a BHX RYR flight, but BHX at the time was 1500mtr, so unlikely a weather issue.

I also notice the Birmingham Post has the tag line 'Birmingham to get the first scheduled flights to China in the UK from a non-London airport, 2 months before Manchester gets them'.
Further down the page, the newspaper then picks up on its own incorrect tag to say 'the flights will be charter flights to begin with'.
Soooooo, not the first scheduled flights at all then, even by their own admission in the very same article. Just a slight fail there!

So, 3 diversions to MAN. Maybe it's purely coincidental, but I reckon our fog probably was a key factor for the notam even though we are Cat3 along with most jet aircraft and crew these days. Maybe we'll never know the reason(s) but it will be interesting to see the response if there's another similar fog situation.

Paul Kehoe / the Birmingham Post was perhaps, charitably, carried away by his / their own enthusiasm, or, less charitably, not willing to let the truth get in the way of a good story!! (as is the way with corporate communications these days).
Personally, I couldn't care either way, any dilution of air traffic away from London is OK by me!

ATnotts,
It was more the fact that they are claiming to get the first scheduled flights in one line, which isn't true, but then just charters in another. To discredit yourself in the same article is quite a feat!
As for Paul Kehoe, it wouldn't be the first time he has let the truth get in the way of a good story, he's getting quite good at lying through his teeth at the moment, to the point it's worrying that he might start believing his own tripe!
It's just frustrating that his evident dislike of Manchester and his blatant attempts to discredit MAN at any opportunity, no matter how false, is starting to wear a little thin.

The way the "headline breaking news" BHX - China announcement was made by RoutesOnLine did suggest a "Route Application" the inference being a schedule rather than a charter!.
Further reading on the routes online Web site "now" available suggests it is indeed more a "charter" than a schedule and even that is far from confirmed as it appears to be subject to further discussion rather than outright confirmation. I presume poss' at the Chinese end.
Moving on ....
"WINDBAG NEWS" see GrahamBradyMP
Of far more importance to the good folk of Manchester than events at Birmingham is the continued flag waving for Heathrow by Graham Brady MP The Honourable Member for Sale. Gtr Manchester.
His support for Heathrow is becoming somewhat evangelical , fine if you have a view, but let's not spend every waking hour trumpeting this at the expense of local issues which quite frankly are of more interest to his constituents, than a possible multi billion pound taxpayer spend at an airport 200 miles away, which has no relevance to the local populace up here.
It is becoming tedious, he never ever misses an opportunity to promote runway3 either in the national media or at conferences etc. This week he is tub thumping "yet again" currently lobbying various groups at a London conference in support not of Manchester Airport where he appears to have a memory deficit but Heathrow!
It's all highly curious ! A quick check of Google will reveal how vocal he is on this. Input Brady and Manchester and the last record I think is 2008 when he wanted Man to go 100% private.
Why the investment in this subject at the expense of more pressing issues to his own area.
I'm sure we would love to know.?
Memo to Mr Brady
"Please stop pontificating on Heathrow and move your proverbial backside up to your constituents office in Sale.
Start representing the mere mortals who voted you in as an MP, and represent them and their interests, ahead of the motives for you own self interests".

Local people in Sale / Atrincham probably do not realise he is batting for the other team, so to speak.
There is no doubt, with Sale / Altrincham being so close to MAN, that his thoughts / support is not in the best interest of his constituents !
Maybe highlighting it on social media (Twitter) might help the locals, and himself, see his loyalty is misguided ?
I find it bizarre myself with MAN on his doorstep he'd take such a stance.

Crikey LAX deep breaths and relax.
Manchester is doing very well at present and BHX doing the best it has ever done, under Mr Keehoe 10 new international airlines secured in 6 months speaks for itself this year.
He is playing the game, just as Manchester did few years back plonking adverts advertising Manchester Airport right outside Birmingham Airport. These asking Brummies to fly from a proper International Airport..Manchester.
BHX then did similar putting up adverts in Manchester advertising BHX.
Its a bloodbath and airport chief execs relish the challenge.
I believe Mr K and his team have had numerous chummy get togethers with the Manchester bosses..don't take it to heart.
The bosses of the two airports certainly don't
Nigel
