If the Hainan is here to take those 150 back, then what happened to the aircraft or aircrafts that brought them here? Not aware of any other aircraft other than a gulf 5 shadowing the B747?

Rampman,

Have a trusted friend who was at a swissport meeting yesterday who were told of the Hainan. I have no reason to suspect he would make up such intricate detail, down to the aircraft registration......

It's not as if Heathrow is short of scheduled flights to China. They arrived in the UK somehow and not necessarily on the Presidential plane.

It's parking diagonally across stand 203/204, with stands 201-206 being closed for the duration. There's been a lot of painting, cleaning and window washing going on the past few days between 202-206!

That's a long turn round like CX, or is it going somewhere else in between?

Same departure time as CX on Monday and Saturday as well, based on CX's current schedule.

A longer report now from Routesonline:

China?s President set to confirm new Hainan Airlines Beijing ? Manchester link :: Routesonline

This mentions rumours of a majority stake in the MAG group of airports, which would be more of a surprise. (my bold and underrline).

Great news for MAN (and also for the well being of industry and commerce outside the southeast).

As regards an apology, if I recall correctly you have "announced" this service a few times - I guess if you say something often enough eventually it comes to pass!

Personally, being old and sceptical, I would still rely upon corporate announcement ahead of the twittersphere!

Over to Nigel....

What an awful schedule!!!! Dumping an additional 200+ badly jetlagged passengers into MAN at the same time as the other arrivals from Asia and US. Better schedule for the passengers' health in both directions is the early evening arrival, late evening departure - PEK/MAN 14.45-19.05, MAN/PEK 21.30-14.55

Often true ATNotts, but in fairness to sarah1981, she was right this time on the starting date as well

06:05 actually makes this one of the earliest long-haul arrivals at MAN, and given that such flights usually arrive upto an hour early the pax are unlikely to find the main body of US/Asia arriving pax queueing alongside them at immigration. Only Thomson and Thomas Cook have [some] long-haul flights scheduled to arrive at MAN earlier than this, and Hainan will share a terminal with only one of these carriers. So whilst I sympathise with your desire for an evening schedule for other reasons, I don't believe that Hainan pax arriving at MAN will hit peak-period for queues. Transit through the airport procedures should be as painless as it gets at this hour.

Note also that these timings do work particularly well for onward connections via MAN. Could be very useful for some.

I think it would be VERY useful.

Does this not become the 1st flight into Europe from Beijing ? Let alone the UK.

Now all we need is a tie to all those dozen or so FlyBe domestic points !

Must admit my first reaction to the Hainan schedule was the same as MAN2Wherevers.

It's not the MAN end of the schedule that's the problem, it's the Beijing end. Who wants to be at the airport in the middle of the night?
Admittedly I only make Beijing once a year on average but I won't be using it for reasons of that schedule.

Christ on a bike, some people will never be pleased.

We wait years for a Beijing link, we finally get it and still people turn their nose up.

I've seen 'the schedule is poor', 'the plane isn't big enough' and more.

I'm sure Hainan have done their homework (Christ they have had long enough to check and double check), so I'm sure there will be people who will be happy with the service.

Let's give the route a chance shall we. You never know, a beloved afternoon/evening flight may materialise if the morning flight proves itself.

How about EK who, with their original mid afternoon service, dumps pax in DXB in the middle of the night. Never heard anyone complaining there.

Only because Pprune didn't exist in 1990! Interesting to contemplate what the MAN-China flight schedule might look like in 2040! 6 Boeing 797s and 3 A390s a day perhaps!!

The PEK schedule is very similar to Cathay's HKG schedule, and it seems to be working pretty well for them. I'd certainly use it if it means saving 7 hours or so going via the Gulf. Each to their own I guess.

In other news Icelandair are increasing to 6 flights a week from February 03rd, Tuesday will be the only day without a flight. Doesn't appear to continue for Summer 16 which still shows 4 flights, but early days.
