Sad news of Olly the Olympic House cat

Manchester Airport cat Olly dies of lung infection as tribute floods in | Daily Mail Online

I for one used to look forward to seeing Olly on my visits to Olympic House, until he/she was rehomed.

In my view it was entirely unprofessional to let it live outside the Head Office entrance in that hut, gave totally the wrong impression.

It should have been re-housed with a sympathetic family immediately it was found rather than years later.

And what is the world coming to when it had its own Facebook page

Was the cat without a gender?

I think the above post shows everything that is wrong with the world today. No compassion for others. Human or animal.

I understand that the initial assumption of the cat's gender was mistaken! Hence the name Ollie turned out not to be a good choice.

I think the fact that staff at MAN took this cat to their heart reflects well on the airport. It may not be "professional" but it does show that the airport community at MAN has a soul. It's a small example of the things that distinguish MAN from a lot of other airports.

The cat was loved by lots of crew and staff. Having him/her residing outside of Olympic house is no less professional than allowing plane spotters on level 13.

Sir Maurice Flanagan

Sad to read this morning about passing of the late Sir Maurice Flanagan, founding CEO of Emirates.

Born and bred in Lancashire, Sir Maurice was always a staunch supporter of MAN and its potential. Towards the end of his career as Vice-Chairman he led the official party on board the inaugural A380 service to MAN in September 2010.

Safe onward journey Sir Maurice, and RIP

Sir Maurice

Gone to join Sir Gilbert Thompson as The Knights in White Clouds. Both are towering figures in MAN's history.

DEL-MAN is part of a 3 new euro route application that will be, according to the Indian media, be starting in the 'coming months'.

If MAN was a bargaining tool against BHX, Paul Kehoe certainly sounded a little defeated already by saying he 'doesn't know what impact the new MAN flights will have on BHX'. Sounds more like he is after damage limitation rather than keeping AI away from MAN?

Also, DEL is offering a pretty nice subsidy to any airline that offers a DEL-MAN route. With DEL-DME cut to 2 weekly and at risk of being cut altogether (according to AI the route isn't even making enough money to cover the fuel bill), maybe AI are taking up DEL's offer of a subsidy with the spare B787 capacity left from the DME fallout?

All in all, it may well be a bargaining tool, but, the thought of MAN-DEL on top of BHX-DEL isnt that far fetched an idea?

Great to see some fantastic loads on TCX inbound legs before we are even properly up and running

And even better Miami Airport advertising flights to wait for it ....Manchester UK ! All over their social media.

Air India

If air India do start a route here that would be brilliant. Fingers crossed it happens. If they do start how would the ME3 be affected? How many people connect to India from Manchester each year? Although I doubt they'd be too badly affected...

EY are very strong into India but all of the MEB3 have significant capacity. The problem AI would have is whether changing at DEL or changing in AUH/DXB/DOH to all of the other destinations is going to be preferred.

How much demand is there directly into DEL?

Route Shop indicates 54,000 passenger a year which is origin and destination. Add on passengers going to Mumbai, Chennai, etc and a 3 or 4 weekly service makes sense. 4 weekly allows for 106,000 seats a year. All of course subject to the yield issue!

Plenty of links out there nigel, but thanks to your sarcastic attitude how about you do your own digging for once?

As for hainan, no its not the same source given MAG/George Osbourne and the Hainan contact centre are not giving out conflicting and duff info.

Dont hate the player, hate the game

Ahaha bang on point dude! Things have suddenly changed with Hainan and god knows what's happened but there's something internally wrong as things where set to go.
But I can promise that I contacted air India via Twitter this morning and they said "we will anounce once all set. Please watch this space for info"

I couldn't agree with Lax-Lhr more!

This could very well happen, I think BHX went from rumour to first flight in a matter of a few months.....now daily and doing very well. AI are on one hand impossible to predict but on the other very quick to get going once they have made their mind up!

A political answer, from a political "company". It says absolutely nothing - could mean they will, or then again they won't.

Is the "twittersphere" really the best place to find out? Since slots will be required for AI to operate to MAN the most reliable source of info is likely to be a slot application or better, slot allocation would be preferable. At least that would show some operational intent.

While I have no doubt a route between MAN and India at say 3/4 times a week initially would work, I'm very surprised Air India are being linked, given the financial turmoil the company is in now. My money would have been on Jet Airways.
