If you are referring to the SEMMMS road, work commenced in mid-March 2015. The scheme should open to traffic in Autumn 2017 with the project costing an anticipated £290M.

is the full A6MARR road scheme excluding complimentary measures on existing roads. You can see that the road doesn't properly tie-in to Ringway Road on this plan as the background is pre-upgrade and I understand that the Airport will be (or have) designed the tie-in themselves under the Airport City improvements.

The new 9000 space car park will be accessed from the 'other' bit of Rignway Rd from Styal Road which might not be ideal if you're coming from the Airport itself.

Also of note is the need for a new deck over the railway which will probably cause several closures of the railway whilst it's being built.

I'd be interested to see the current proposed road layout for Airport City as it seems to be changing as more detailed plans come forward.

That plan is a little out of date now as the airport section is now finished
and dual carriageway from where the new road comes in.
i thought the entrances to the new car park were from Shaddowmoss
and Style road.
What type of junction is it going to be at Shaddowmoss/Ringway Rd/Semms and will the old Ringway Rd still be a through road
or will they close one end off.

there is a planning drawing somewhere for the car park. You might be right in terms of it being accessed from Shadowmoss although that would be via the old bit of Ringway.

First it was dogs, then it was a flamingo, now it's a drone.
Unusual reasons for suspended ops at Manchester Airport.
Why doesn't any other airfield suffer this craziness?
Actually, I share betablocker's frustration on this. And the report says that flights were suspended for only 20 minutes, yet 4 flights diverted. I suppose ATC were unavoidably advising 'delays not determined'.

Don't forget also the weather is not always kind to MAN. Recently, the ILS went on the blink when we were in LVPs, the situation compounded by the fact maintenance work was being carried out on 05R. More flights diverted.

Then how about the snow closure that Thursday morning. The Met Office forecast occasional snow showers, but it snowed, very heavily at times, continuously for 4 hours dumping over 3 inches of wet snow on the airfield.

I'd need some convincing that MAN is a lucky airport.

Unfortunately it seems Norwegian are again shrinking ex-MAN.

SVG-MAN seems to be ending on 23rd Oct. It was on sale a few weeks ago past that date.

Turkish will go back to full 3 daily from March 29th 2016.

This means 21 weekly until 24th Oct, then 18 weekly until 28th March and then back to 21 weekly from 29th March.

Bookable across all platforms.

Ian - Whilst the plans seem to constantly evolve, residents have been advised that Ringway Road will cease to be a through-road to the airport for vehicular traffic once the SEMMMS road opens. It is anticipated that through-access for pedestrians and cyclists will be retained. The expectation is that the current 90 degree turn at the junction of Ringway Road and Shadowmoss Road will be smoothed out to become a curve on one continuous road. Thus the new combined 'L-shaped' road will link Styal Road with Simonsway as one through-route. All airport traffic will be routed via the SEMMMS road, although it remains to be seen whether special provision will be made for emergency vehicles and possibly for traffic using the new car park via its Shadowmoss access.

I'd need some convincing that MAN is a lucky airport.

MANFOD, definition of luck = Preparation meeting Opportunity.

The new Passport Control procedure introduced for Ryanair in T3, any chance of it being implemented in T2 for SQ pax in May

I decided to dig out both.

Car Park:
e-Document - 102834-dpp-0001.pdf

A6MARR:
http://www.semmms.info/140683/435117/fullschemedrawing

So the car park will come in via Shadowmoss from Ringway Rd at a T-Junction (and also from Styal Rd). When the A6MARR is built, the T-junction of Ringway Road and Shadowmoss Road will be smoothed out to become a curve on one continuous road as mentioned by Shed-on-a-Pole.

The A6MARR drawing is not at a great scale but suggests to me that cycle and pedestrian access only will be provided between the two although this could change. It is my understanding that when the A6MARR was in its early stages of design the 9,000 car park wasn't there although it's worth thinking about the number of trips it might generate in the context of long stay car parking.

I just don't think MAN can afford to lose ANY service even 2 a week to SVG.

Does the airport have internal reviews following routes where load factors start to show signs of distress ?
  • Why is it failing
  • Could we address it
  • ...................and if so how.

Must confess a few have gone under in recent years but what we never see at least on the surface is what I would call a "spirited effort" to retain them before the axe falls.

Clearly you cannot force pax to travel on an unwanted service, if loads are poor , so be it, but what you can do is make damn sure you have done everything to address issues which you observe might affect profitability and fix beforehand.

One of the Stavanger tourist boards ads show flights from LGW and MAN, great but two more don't.

That IS something that the MAN account manager liaising with NOR could fix within 24hrs !

An easy fix ! Maybe there are others ?

In more positive news this may be of interest to some and shows some reliance on the City rather than The North in general !

Terminal 2 developments

Front page of the Knutsford Guardian this morning was headlined "Flight Fears" with the usual night flight noise concerns. More interestingly is the quote that a "Knutsford councillor, who is on the airport's community relations team, met with management last month and was told that Terminal 2 is set to double in size". On the back of this I was wondering if anything has recently come into the public domain as regards terminal redevelopments, particularly as this refers specifically to Terminal 2 rather than general redevelopment of the terminals.

T2

There is a masterplan for the airport in development. We 'know' that it involves pretty much demolishing T1 and T3 and starting again. In order to facilitate this, T2 will need to handle larger demand whilst works are ongoing.

Rumours to date suggest an enlarged check-in, security and shops which is no surprise. They also suggest extended T2 to link with the T1 lounge area and on the other side towards the motorway.

It's likely that Pier C will go early on the redevelopment to facilitate better access to/from T2.

I'd love to see plans for all of this. If only the airport would release a timescale for it all.......

Thanks Gavin.

It would indeed be good to see a timescale to provide an indication of how long it is likely to be until a more suitable terminal complex is in place - I look forward, like many, to seeing the plans!

T3

T3 certainly needs a rescue package ASAP. 0730 this morning unable to access Escape lounge as full to capacity. Terminal chocka - no seats & queues for the over priced coffees horrendous at all outlets. A very unpleasant way to start a trip. Waited until arrival at SOU for a refreshing brew & bacon sandwich in a civilised environment. Next time, I shall use the train. End of.

Looks like Ryanair could be starting Knock from Manchester.

Friend got an email saying 'Knock to Manchester from 9.99'.

Maybe one of the new winter routes that IT got a bit ahead of themselves with?

(granted not one of the most exciting new route leaks given flybe ply the route)

Although not the best Terminal I admit coupled with it not being designed for the RYR loads we see today, however, it's not that bad - I've been to worse places. How long is the train journey to SOU - about 4 1/2 hrs !! - I think I'd rather put up with a little inconvenience at MAN and take the quicker plane (assuming the a/c isn't 'Tech')
