A question for the Manchester Regulars:

Looks like I might have to pick up a family member arriving at Terminal 1 in a couple of weeks (it will be a Friday evening...deep joy).

Any alternative to gritting ones teeth and paying to sit it out in the appropriate short stay car park?

You can try parking / waiting in the petrol station, but I was there the other night at 11pm - it was full of people waiting and the Police were having a field day moving folk on or dishing out tickets.

You could get them to hop on the tram to Shadowmoss and wait there for them. First stop after the airport.

Navpi...Okay I`ll fall for it...))..For the record & regaling all your previous (I have since looked) your posts appear heavily biased against the SE generally, with LHR together sometimes with LGW on the receiving end of your comments vis a vi MAN & now STN too albeit in an attempted subtle way...& in what way does your good self living near STN? make any difference anyway)) that being a rhetorical question...

Thanks all for the info re pick up..

Ho**y cow I thought you were joking but I see the place has gone up market...I used to "spot" from there at times in the late 60's/early 70's ( didn't live in Manchester but had relatives on Prinknash Road and elsewhere on Woodhouse park) and have fond memories of the handful of houses with newer tiles than the rest in the row , Ferrantis, farmers fields, and keeping a close eye on my bins and radio...

Anyhow in light of the news I've just checked Google Street view and must say I do like what you've done to the place. , look forward to seeing it again..

Wiggy

Get them to walk through to T1 arrivals, past Greggs and the aviation model shop through doors to the outside of T1 arrivals. You park on International Approach on the double yellows next to Olympic House (where everyone drops off for T1). You are unlikely to be moved along, if you are, simply do the circuit and come back around. My wife does it for me every time, works a treat.

You can always park at the airport hotel have a quick drink whilst you wait or watch the aircraft land once your passengers have got there luggage get them to call you on mobile then collect them on level 5 departures, you will be there in 2 minutes and its quiet in evenings

Why would you pick up at Level 5? That is what causes all of the queues. Just pick up at arrivals/Jet2 departures, much quicker.

There is also the drop-off point at the Station, it is obscurely marked, but I have my wife grab me there when coming back from business trips.

Those trying to find ways to avoid paying the airport's published parking tariff would do well to read recent posts under the Luton thread. Just pay like everyone else and use the correct parking areas.

Do us all a favour and stay off the double yellows. They are there for a reason.

I always thought the area outside ground level at T1 and the level 5 area was drop off not pick up.

The reason the place gets so clogged is with folk stopping for a few minutes waiting, rather than the very short period of time it takes to drop off and go.

Sorry last post posted before completed what I was saying

Take 2

It takes the same amount of time to collect somebody as to dropping off.

Original post was all about collecting a passenger in the evening, it's a lot easier to park a short distance away for ex airport hotel, then when your passenger has arrived on level 5 get them to call you on mobile and you will be there in 2 minutes, passengers are waiting to be collected and you're away again just as quick as anyone dropping off.
now try getting into the arrivals collection point at the same time you will be stuck in line then struggling to get a spot to pull over to collect your passengers, level 5 in the evening especially after 8/9pm is disserted

CX

My CX flights in December have been changed.
The outbound is now CX216 & inbound CX219
Does that mean they have left room for a 217 & 218 - twice a day in future?

Interestingly all booking platforms show both CX216/219 and CX357/358 making it look like CX serve MAN twice a day.

By having the CX2** numbers, MAN now fits in the same sequence as the incumbent Euro flights for CX, but interestingly, LGW hasn't had the same treatment, so I wonder why MAN was selected?

I looked at 8th Jan as an example and both flights were showing

Edit: just checked a few dates in Dec/Jan and all showing both flights. Obviously an error but fun to look like 2 daily for a while.
