They certainly visited a couple of times in 1986 as I did the turnround when spending a summer post university as a Circusair ramp tramp. Made a change from the 727s and 737s that usually did their charter flights that summer (think we had a couple of charters a week). The LHR Royal Air Maroc rep used to fly up on the shuttle in the afternoon (they were evening flights) oversee the turnround, spend the night in a hotel then fly back the following morning. Must have cost them a fortune!
The Royal Air Maroc plan appears to be to push connections via CMN to the rest of their African network. I didn't realize it was so extensive. They might do ok in the North and West, but will struggle against the ME3 in the East and South I feel.
But good luck to them - about time MAN had another African connection after Egyptair pulled out (or were pushed ?)
As for Arik Air from Nigeria, they seem to be in the habit of forgetting to pay their staff. Never a good sign....

Curios Pax
Not strictly anything to do with Manchester but with regards to sending staff to look after occasional flights, I was in Havana staying in hotel which also had a BA engineer staying. Aldrin was his first name- mum named him after the astronaut apparently, who came over to meet one of their two flights a week from Gatwick (777). They came in on Wed and Sat and he was based in Nassau, and did two weeks in Cuba then back to Nassau for two weeks, and then back to Cuba. This was late 90 so Cuba was still a little undiscovered by tourist industry, and we were all staying in the Golden Tulip Hotel, as did the crew. He was single and could not believe his luck being paid in Dollars, with good Cuban cigars, and Rum not to mention the local women, and also paid for accommodation and working 2 days a week ! I bet he was sick when they cancelled the route, have to say the crews liked the long layover as well !
Regards
Mr Mac

Any timings on that Cologne route - hopefully they will be complementary to the existing Germanwings offering?

Seems Ryanair really pushing the German market at Manchester!
Dortmund (served down the road) and Leipzig? I must go some time as it keeps popping up in conversation!

While it's great to see new routes, it's a route to an already served point.
So far, there have been 10 new routes announced in 2017, and only 3 of those are currently unserved (Casablanca, London City and Riyadh).
I wonder at what cost we could have a Seville or Bucharest, to which Ryanair have extensive and growing operations (Seville had 2 new routes announced today, to Cologne and Hamburg with Ryanair). These 2 routes are probably 2 of the larger unserved gaps in the Manchester portfolio at this time.
I have no doubt this new route from Ryanair could push Germanwings off the route, so, it's won't necisarily be a win win for this new route.

It amazes me that we don't have Seville. A wonderful city to visit if only the people of Manchester could!
Bucharest is also a nice place to visit and one I'm sure the Romanian population of the Northwest would like to see at MAN.

You're starting to sound like the infamous Terry Collier (James Bolam) rant in The Likely Lads!

Manchester Airport press dept tweeting daily Oman Air offers. Seems Oman Air undercutting Etihad by about £60 on onward connections to SE Asia. i.e. £359 Kuala Lumpur return. Special offer book by today, fly May-Dec but good to see the joint effort in getting a new route off the ground.

It is less than a couple of hours drive from AGP, which is already well served, but obviously the direct route would be preferable!

UK and India have signed a deal to ease restrictions on flights, I wonder if this may then see the opportunity for the much discussed flights starting from Manchester?

Personally I think the main hope is Vistara. Air India is very London centric, with BHX lucky due to the large Punjab population.
Jet Airways is shackled by Etihad to help fill their AUH flights, so, Vistara may be the last ones once they get their long haul in order. They are part owned by SQ so already have the foundations for a possible MAN flight.
Time will tell.
