What's the reason for the bizarre approach that we seem to get on AMS-MAN flights?
The flight goes way to the north east of the airport (over Rochdale I believe), does a big turn to the south and eventually turn right to the south west to approach the airport.
It adds about 10 minutes to the flying time.

You need to ask the people who designed the procedures, no doubt they looked at all the conflicting airspace, SID's and STAR's before they came up with their master plan.
From a pilots perspective I do find it slightly bizarre.

Traffic from south goes to Dayne which is Macclesfield area East and north Rosun up near Burnley/Blackburn West go to Mersi which is near Liverpool

Its to save conflicts between North and East inbounds against South inbounds and also
the same departures
If you watch on FR24 it gives a good view of how it works especially at busy times

Approaching Manchester
Much depends on the runway in use but more particularly the number of other inbound planes to Manchester at the same time. Assuming 23L is in use for landing, planes from Amsterdam may be given an early turn to the left for an approach into MAN. However, more often other traffic is approaching either also from the East or the north, South or West in which case a plane from Amsterdam has to fly to Rosun from where it will be given a radar heading for making an approach hence the longer flight.
Manchester Airport chaos as thousands of passengers are held up by broken door | Daily Mail Online
The £1bn TP will take 10 years to deliver. What is the plan to cope with pax numbers between now and then?
Why are simple things like doors broken? escaltors broke for weeks, lifts not working, walkways broken etc etc
Buckets all over the place when it rains.
Are we not at the point where there should be no more new services until the airport can handle the passengers they have already got?
I have tried to raise these issues along with my own poor experiences with MAG,but without success.

significant investment to be announced in coming days. Some of the charters now cancelled. BBC mentioning the ATOL renewal. An 11th hour changed of heart by someone, which is just fantastic to hear. Long live Monarch

Except no one will now book with them. Greybull could have quietly put money in before it got this far, they didn't. If it's bad now, what's it going to be like mid winter?
If I take off my avgeek hat, there's no way I would risk taking the family on a seat only Monarch booking now. There are safer options, indeed after all this PR they're going to need an even bigger bail out than before.
Wonder what investor looked at MON last week and thought "I can make a lot of money here!" And is said investor still signed on after it appeared the business was being wound up Monday?

Seen on another site that AC Rouge are adding Vancouver from next April and YYZ is getting a longer season. Anyone know anything about this? I can't find anything on the internet, so maybe just a rumour.
