Parking
There are some good comments above. Manchester has the worst percentage use of public transport for any airport with heavy rail except Newcastle(and worse than some without rail links at all). It is entirely within their gift to improve accessibility from the station to the three terminals, be it by regular interconnecting bus or ensuring that all travellators and lifts are operational. It's a will issue rather than a skill issue. Does the TP include any specific comment regarding the improvement in public transport usage?

Whatever is said about public transport targets, it is not in their financial interest to maintain empty car parks.

Or maybe the issue is that people just don't like using public transport and would rather drive/Taxi to get from point A to point B in the shortest time?
I fit that category, in that it doesn't matter how cheap the rail fare is, I would rather drive and park up at the airport. If I have those feelings, maybe others do too.
It's probably indicative of the public transport and how bad it actually is.
I once priced up a train fare for 4 people from North Wales to Manchester airport. It was actually longer (with a change at Piccadilly) and more expensive than a taxi fare we had been quoted.
Then it seems every time I get on a train there's either no room for luggage or there's a drunken idiot (or plural) ruining it for everyone compared to a relatively easy and civilised drive.
Lastly, who wants to get on a local bus to go on holiday (remembering Manchester is predominantly outbound traffic). If you moan that the walk from the station to T3 with luggage is bad, getting a local bus with said luggage isn't exactly a nice experience either?!
As for the station to T3, I honestly did find it worse at LHR central-T3. Given the station has to serve a central core to access all 3 terminals the station is probably best placed, and as said, there is a regular shuttle bus, I honestly don't know what you expect MAG to do to improve that scenario? Maybe the skylink can be extended to serve T3 once the TP is done given T1 will be redundant, but that's about it?

From GOT you are generally flying back to LHR on BA and onwards from there, saving large amounts over starting in the UK for long haul J/F.

The walk from the station to T3 at Manchester is horrendous with luggage. There is a bus link I believe but I have never seen the bus.

Not sure on the mix and "of course" numbers are not my strong point, but is there a higher number of pax using MAN who are MAN originating passengers ?
That is to say they travel out then travel back!
Are they more inclined to drive ?
At Heathrow by way of example the mix of pax is going to be of foreign origin ie tourists who fly in who have little choice but to rely on public transport!

The Manchester Airport web-site says the following about transfers between Terminal 3 and the Station:-
"Our integrated public transport hub, The Station, is a state-of-the-art interchange for rail, tram and bus services across the North-West and beyond. Terminal 3 is a short walk to the Station."
No mention of a bus transfer at all on the web-site.

If has stopped it has stopped fairly recently as I used it last summer and TP express says on the subject "Terminal 3: approximately a 7 minute walk. A frequent shuttle bus operates from outside the train station and outside the arrivals hall of Terminal 3."
Personally I feel there a few airports as well connected as MAN in the UK, it's public transport connections are excellent. You can lay on all the public transport you want, but folk going on holiday with numerous cases in tow will never find the tram, train or bus as easy as car or taxi.

Are you sure there is a bus from T3 to the station? My Vueling flight arrived 40 mins late today - as expected but don't let me start on about that - but there was no indication of a bus. So I walked, and just missed the train. Fortunately, because of TPE First Airport Advance ticket, I didn't have to pay to use the next train.

I'm not aware of the PHL route going B787? That may be a typo.
The Saudia news was covered way way back, probably months ago now.
It seems like it's only in the past 2-3 weeks the MAN Twitter account poster has woken up again!

Thanks. I probably missed the SV stuff while scrolling thru the power supply for HS2 debate.
Yes, I guess "Dreamliner" is a fairly generic description to a marketing type.
The MAN Twitter account is active but not sure about this...
Manchester Airport @manairport
New routes! Air France to San Jose and KLM to Colombo

Yeah, those 2 routes aren't exactly MAN news haha.
That said, they do seem to be getting better at announcing the new routes, even if it is 2-3 days behind the curve. At least there will be the awareness, and that's what counts (it was funny that one person on Twitter asked if there were any flights to Amsterdam from Manchester! Just the 15 flights or so a day love!).

Not Manchester news as such BUT just an observation.
£344m to expand London City.
A modest new terminal and 7...yes 7 new stands. Creating a storm of media interest for the "national good".
It does make the MAN £1bn expansion and the mega increase in capacity appear excellent value for money by comparison ...
