Hang on - that is a bit of a leap from what I say and mean!

Simply, the SFO/LAX routes were ones where it was generally expected that VS or DL could operate at a decent yield from MAN with decent feeds from either end. That TCX see an opportunity with (mostly) O&D passengers likely shows that they have missed something.

I think it is brilliant news that TCX are adding yet another Long Haul from MAN. I flew with TCX on short hauls because of the merger with Airtours/MyTravel as it was those that i always booked with, and never once did i have any problems.... I even got to fly on the Air New Zealand 747 they had back in 1998 when i went to Tenerife, sat in the bubble both ways as we paid the extra £49pp...... Well done TCX....

"There is a lot of snobbery in the plane-fan community I fear."

I think you're in the wrong forum.

Spotters Corner may be more to your taste.

Turin

Thanks for your useful and constructive contribution to the forum.
However since I am not a Plane Spotter (I have never understood the hobby, along with their bus and train cousins) and I fear that I would be bored silly by your suggestion.
Instead I am a highly regular user of MAN and it's airlines - you know a customer - that keeps both in gainful employment. As such I have a high level of insight into the type and quality of services provided by them. I thought (perhaps mistakenly in your case) that some readers might be interested.
Anyway, perhaps we could get back to the main thread.

Me think you protest too much.

Whilst the arrival of any new airline to MAN is very welcome, a 16th March commencement for a long haul route does seem very short notice, considering the official announcement was only made this month.

Hopefully Shaheen has been busy behind the scenes courting the market for the last few months, and we are not about to embark on another "Flynas" extravaganza !!
This market has the ability to fill planes very quickly. Back in the day, PIA started with a couple of weeks notice after we finally got the bilateral sorted.

PIA once operated a one-way extra because of demand and filled the return leg with 3 days notice, so I expect there has been a lot going on with the specialist travel agencies.

You just predicted exactly what will happen, I expect.

I give it 6 months.

The Shaheen route has apparently been on 'advanced sale' in the specialist travel agents since December. Never underestimate the loyalty to 'home brands' for the Indian subcontinent.

Not had access to my PC today, so a belated thanks to LAX-LHR for the info. on TCX long haul plans for S2017.

Delighted that SFO will be on MAN's departure boards and to see the frequency increases planned for LAX, MIA and JFK.

Interested to read ANT's comments about the TCX Premium Economy product.
In terms of the other carriers, VS I would regard as a proper P/E product while that provided by DL & UA is Economy Plus or some such name. VS definitely best based on my experience with DL ahead of UA.

MAN-JFK/EWR

This has been something of a sucess story of 2015.

In 2014, around 226k PAX travelled between MAN and either JFK (112k) or EWR (114k).

In 2015, that number had jumped to 343k. EWR held roughly steady at 111k but JFK jumped to 232k.

With further increases in frequency from TCX and with the U.S. carriers putting on larger aircraft this will hopefully continue to grow strongly.

Impressive fly-through video shows how Manchester Airport will look after £1bn transformation - Manchester Evening News

On the eve of the #northernpowerhouse talking shop which will be opened by Ken O Toole this video shows what £1bn of private finance gets you with no taxpayer subsidies, sorry I mean investment ..... unlike

Channel Tunnel
Olympic Village
Crossrail
Thameslink
Bank Underground
Oh And the rather lovely Garden Bridge !

Total cost , deep breath everybody

£1000,000,000.....no only joking

Try three more zeros

£100,0000,000,000 !

Or One Hundred, Thousand, Million .......

Let's hold that beacon and wave the flag of austerity whilst others sucker on the breast of the taxpayer .....

Worth noting is the ample remote parking, the lack of check in desks, nice glass facade. It's got the potential to be something great. I'm impressed.

Bagso, I'm impressed by your passion for the costs, but, no offence, can it be put aside and focus on the project at hand. The finances of the north vs south has been done to death, and it's not going to change in our lifetime so, shall we just enjoy what we are about to get without the paragraphs referencing the disparity of the southern spending. It's annoying, I know, but, your preaching to the wrong crowd here in my opinion. I'm not wanting to start even more debate, and again, I'm sorry if it offends, but, let it go (on here at least).

Manchester Airport boss to make rallying call for Northern Powerhouse and HS3 development - Manchester Evening News

Lax

.... it was actually for a wider audience but hopefully I will refrain as the points I made have seeped into the consciousness of those who matter. - see above

Well done Ken O Toole an excellent piece comparing investment in the North South (...cough).

And well done Shed who first raised this issue 18 months back and Charlotte re heads Up

Thanks Bagso.

Will any Government Ministers be there to hear Ken O'Toole, (or other speeches for that matter)? If not, with media coverage no doubt being restricted to the North, I trust copies will be / have been supplied to Mr Osborne, the Transport Secretary, and oh yes, Graham Brady, although I'm sure HMG will already be well aware of the sentiments to be expressed.

I wonder if the airport fly-through video after the TP will get a showing at the conference.

Exactly what was said about FlyNas too, I seem to recall?

I note PIA are moving to defend their turf. We shall see.
