MANCHESTER 1
Just because there's been no announcement doesn't mean that nothing is happening.
And no, I'm not casting aspersions on Manchester as a city, just suggesting that on a global (and Chinese public's perception) scale it isn't that important. Neither are any other UK cities outside London.

And in the field of education, you may be aware of the significant number of Chinese students in cities such as Liverpool and Manchester, a good few of whom return to their homeland at the end of each term by way of CX's non-stop scheduled flights from Manchester.

With the amount of inward investment from China to the Midlands, BHX could also lay claim to a direct service (not just the charter operation), and I guess that Bristol and the Northeast could lay similar claim. The Chinese are everywhere in business and industry these days so I honestly think that the race for a scheduled service from Beijing or Shanghai has still not yet reached it's end.

My comment on GO wasn't so much a criticism of no Chinese announcement but more the go ahead of some pretty amazing investment in housing /office/ retail redevelopment in Ardwick and indeed Salford Locks.
ie well we ain't got the China route but we have got some pretty mega Chinese investment.
Whilst not airport related it's a tremendous opportunity to redevelope some run down areas of the City and fill in those gaps.
....All of which improves the City and the prospects for the airport generally !
--------------------------------------------------------------------
ATNotts - Talking to Chinese students in Liverpool recently they "appeared" more switched on to the UK as an entity rather than just London and perish the thought felt there was a better vibe in Liverpool than London hence their choice
.....incidentally all 30 of them had CX bags Hong Kong - Man so "hopefully" they were on our Cathay.

not that your average Chinese student is going to avail themselves of business class!

Skipness, I thought it was in the 9O's that BWIA flew to MAN with L10-11s but could be wrong. Did they return with the A340s as Caribbean Airways? Another senior moment.
Can't help with the routeing I'm afraid.

Hey folks,
informed by member of management that it will be 8 flights per week from HKG with four of them coming with the A350. this will bring up total service alongside the 777.
MAN, along with Melbourne & Auckland are the first A350 LH destinations.
Very excited to be returning back home.

Seymourskye,
I posted the news earlier in the thread too. There are supposedly 2 flights on Mondays with an afternoon arrival and evening departure.
A350 on Monday afternoon, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, with the B77W 'as is' on Monday morning, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Meant to be from April-ish.

Excellent, it seems the same info we have in HK. Monday's would make sense for the working week.
Just depends how we roll out the 350, hopefully no problems and smooth transition.
Cheers.

I think they are waiting till February to load the 8 weekly due to the A350. CX are apparently confident they can still sell well enough with a relatively short lead in time (short by CX standards).

There has been no announcement where the initial 350 routes will be flown as yet.
1st a/c arrives Feb, 2nd in March, 3rd in April, so highly unlikely that a daily flt to Man would happen at that time, let alone 8 a week.
The last 777 is delieverd very soon, increased flts to Adelaide, Madrid starting next year, Boston and Dusseldorf started, so the upshot is, at this time, there are not enough a/c and/or crew to start flying daily to MAN. It may or may not happen I don't know, if it did I would not expect to see it happen before Jul/August time 2016.
I heard the rumour the Monday evening flt was a freighter not a pax flt, but unsubstantiated at this point.

But Spanners,
The 8 weekly is not being touted as all A350.
There seems to be several sources to indicate 4 weekly B77W (obviously already operating so accounted for in the allocation numbers), and 4 weekly A350, to which 3 frames should be enough to run AKL and MAN 4 weekly each to which the rumours suggest will happen.
Therefore, 8 weekly with the mix of the 2 aircraft as suggested is in fact possible within the timeframe quoted.

This is from the Emirates thread:
27 March 2016:
MAN (EK019/020) from daily 2-class A380 to daily 3-class A380
LGW (EK009/010) from daily 3-class A380 to daily 2-class A380
It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think the 4th daily or getting all existing services to be A380 operated will happen sometime during the course of next year, would it?

I have heard that a 3rd A380 and a 4th flight could be happening in 2016. EK19/EK20 swapping back to a 3 class seems like a great idea because I brings back the first class and the lost PAX would be made up by the 3rd A380 or the possible 4th Flight. A big announcment is going to happen in November for EK because it's the anniversary for the MAN service.
