Turns out Norwegian have not cancelled MAN-SVG as originally thought and alluded to by Norwegian on social media, it is now once again fully bookable right until May 2016 after originally looking to end in October.
Good news indeed!

Oh no, not again....
Thanks for squashing that one LAX before it got out of hand
Now we can concentrate on the words of Bagso tomorrow when the Davies Commission report comes out
I couldn't even guess what he'll come out with!
The route map has now got Manchester on it... Shouldn't now be as long... :confused

Hi Suzeman
I couldn't even guess what he'll come out with
Is that me OR Mr Davies ?
Be of good cheer Sir Humphrey has just sent me a highly discreet email alerting me to this, see below
Airports Commission report 'to back Heathrow runway' - BBC News
As if we needed yet more evidence that the commission is hot wired to the BBC given the crescendo of "UK (London) Airport Capacity News" in the last few days, guess what came out 2320 Tuesday.
Now how does a confidential report get leaked 8 hours BEFORE publication unless somebody actually makes a call to divulge same, AND to a mate in the BBC ?
SOURCE is clearly one of the committee or a civil servant.
Definition of "Grubby" anybody?
Maybe we need an enquiry ?
At least the whole project is now dead in the water!

Couple of lines from Davies
16.48 The airport’s owner, Manchester Airport Group (MAG), has a long-term aim to secure the lifting of the current planning cap of 35 million passengers a year ?
Two things the last 6 PR pieces issued by MAN have at long last grown some ******** suggesting MAN can handle 50M "now".
Realistically we all know that is nigh impossible but a bit of spin as used by London media types and politicians never did any harm.
With the recent announcement of Terminal expansion that morphed into 55m.
I appreciate there is an efficiency issue that would physically cap traffic but was unaware of what appears to be a legislative "planning cap" ?
Anybody know more ?
point 2 Davies essentially suggests that IF a 3rd runway is built at LHR that would be it. Airports like Manchester would then take up the mantle.
Well hang on if they are expected to step up to the plate with a 3 runway system in place, why can it not be done with a 2 runway system in situ ?

Yes, Manchester does get a mention along with STN and BHX for further expansion when he rules out a 4th runway at LHR.
I know we shouldn't be selective but this extract caught my eye. My bold print.
"Other UK airports are increasingly squeezed out of Heathrow, with passengers from the nations and regions obliged to transfer through other European airports, or Middle Eastern hubs."
In some cases that may be true, but given a choice, does Sir Howard not consider the possibility that some pax may actually prefer to transfer through other hubs because of convenience, timings, price, airline etc. If I were travelling to Australia for example, I'm not obliged to use another hub. Passengers with existing shuttle services can easily opt for LHR.
Anyway, it seems a pretty thorough report so a lot to digest.

16.47 Stansted Airport: Stansted has recently begun an £80 million terminal redevelopment to improve the airport facilities and offer airlines a more tailored and differentiated airport product. The airport aims to grow its mix of airlines, attracting both short-haul and long-haul full service, and the volume of extra capacity currently available at Stansted will be key to the wider London airports system in the years before any new runway is operational. The Commission therefore welcomes the renewed focus on the needs of airport users travelling by rail to Stansted, and to Southend, in the consultation on the West Anglia Route Study.
16.48 The airport’s owner, Manchester Airport Group (MAG), has a long-term aim to secure the lifting of the current planning cap of 35 million passengers a year, and in 2014 Stansted Airport held a consultation on its Sustainable Development Plan which sets out how the airport believes it can develop its single runway to a capacity of around 40-45 million passengers a year within pre-existing environmental limits on noise and air transport movements

Apols Suzeman, quite right I was looking for references to Manchester and the "crucial" STN line was hidden....grrrrrrrr. Never skim read !!!!!
Quite refreshing that Rachel Burden (5 live Salford) and Bill Turnbull (BBC1 Breakfast , Salford again and now living in the High Peak) suggested using Manchester !
This would have been unheard of before media opinion illustrators moved up here !

This is the Guardian take.
Not sure what this is trying to prove, they have compared a number of top major European airports against LHR BUT the last three airports on this seemingly random sample/ info graph ARE smaller than Manchester! !!!!
It does make you wonder if MAN is failing to show how busy and how much capacity it actually has and by definition failing to influence opinion makers.
Even if they use wrong data !
On this basis are we therefore a major European Airport ?
Yes if you are a Gaurdian reader.
Never if you post as Skippy
Anyway thank goodness MAG have made capital of this in their response to today's news !
Well they have haven't they ?

Guardian is using 2013 numbers Bagso, and all airports on the list showing the airport layout are larger than MAN in 2014 with ARN closest to MAN (0.5 million more passengers). But the Guardian's interpretation about the use of the runways are bit off target. As an example AMS can only use maximum 4 runways at the same time. The same goes for CPH where the third runway is only used in strong cross wind.

"Amazeballs"
is that the term UK "youth" to describe something jawdropping ?
well kop for this one people of Mancunia, this one gets an Oscar !
The MEN went out to get the views of "local" business re Heathrow expansion.
In terms of incompetence this really does take some beating !
Who could they have asked ;
Manchester Airport - Charlie Cornish has been super critical re cost of LHR
Maybe Lawrence Jones, powerful Mancunian Business leaders/opinion makers who push the MAN agenda !
Maybe somebody from within the Northernpowerhouse how about Jim ONeill ?
What this utter imbecilic reporter from the MEN has come back with, is an interview with a complete and utter nobody in terms of Manchester representation and one whose bias is 100% London Centric.
And why not.
This mob will be heavily involved with various partners building the bloody runway !
I'll bet the guy could not believe his luck !
bio http://www.chambersandpartners.com/u.../richard-laudy
This is nothing more than a propaganda exercise for Heathrow in OUR regional paper !
OK its one thing giving a begrudging nod to LHR expansion absolutely no issue there ....
but hang on its quite another to applaud and start putting the bloody bunting up around Olympic House by way of celebration.
Given that the MEN "appear" to get the inside track on all news stories ex Man Airport to the detriment (in my view) of every other news agency I would have thought this would go down like a Led Zeppelin at Olympic House.
Charlie Cornish must be burying his head in his hands with exasperation !
Why did Lucy Roue (that's Lucy Roue if anybody wants her email ) not go one better and do a one to one with LHR CEO John Holland-Kaye and splash that across the front page !
Milestone for Heathrow as capacity takes centre stage - Manchester Evening News
What was the quote from Capt Mainwaring...
"I sometimes feel I'm surrounded by complete idiots"

Here's a difficult one for you Bagso:
Do you think the Evening Standard gave similar publicity to MAN's announcement of a £1bn investment program?
Joking apart, I hope someone comes out of the bunker at MAN to put an alternative view in the MEN (incidentally, the Simon Jenkins article in the Guardian is worth a read, although his comments re STN are a bit adrift), or just to emphasise MAN's attributes even if they are not unsympathetic to LHR expansion.

Easyjet have also added a 3rd daily flight to AMS on Mondays, in addition to the 3rd daily on Fri and Sun.
Clearly easyjet thought MAN-AMS didn't have enough capacity added recently!?!

I'm not too sure what your point is here Council Van ?
Both the existing runways can and do operate completely independently of each other, that is why the runways are staggered to such a degree. With that in mind, a queue of ten for departure would have occurred no matter where the runways were situated. (even in they were split by a county !) These queues for departure happen because of a number of factors, the major one being the departure separation required by the outbound radar sectors and the type of aircraft flying the same SID's.
I agree about Terminal 1. It requires the visit of an explosives expert to bring it down in one go and quickly!

The point is that arrivals/departures on the runway being crossed need to be spread out more to allow aircraft to cross it. Also parallel runways within 760m of eachother are considered the same runway when taking wake turbulence into account, again requiring more spacing depending on category of preceding arrival/departure.
It just means MAN will never have the same capacity as say LHR or DXB, not really a problem overall in fairness but during busy periods it must be a headache.

Manchester will always struggle to overcome the fact that the second runway is to close to the first and should have been built to the North of the terminal.

At bloody last ! Sadly it's trains and not airports !
And yes this DOES matter!
