Ryanair pulled out of Blackpool the day after the ADF was imposed. They gave Blackpool Airport advanced warning of their intentions should the airport go ahead with this charge.
They said and did exactly the same at this other airport, but in that case they were shown the door!
Of course I expect you believe everything FR (MOL) say?

Same excuse to save face in both places!

Maybe had FR payed landing fees - BLK may not have imposed the ADF - FR cost BLK a fortune.

Blackpool is in an almost unique position amongst British airports in that it is built very close to a residential area with unrestricted on street parking.
All airports these days need to supplement their income by car parking charges, but in Blackpool this income is much harder to obtain.
I well remember in the pre-ADF days, the arrival of the Ryanair flight would be followed by dozens of passengers walking out of the airport entrance with their wheeled suitcases down the local streets to their cars.
I imagine that Ryanair were offered very cheap landing fees on the assumption that there would be a reasonable supplement from car parking.
When there was a shortfall on anticipated income, the ADF was devised.

I wonder - Will the Red Arrows be able to fly out of Blackpool this year? They are not commercial jets.

Businesses need to make a profit. Blackpool Airport is a business and therefore needs to make a profit, unless tax payers are prepared to cover losses. The main runway is the most important asset so I think any proposal to reduce runway length will be flawed given the cost of adjusting all the runway facilities, eg lighting, markings, navigation aids etc. Keeping the existing length at least gives the airport more opportunity to attract future business.

I cannot see why the red arrows could not use the airport this season,as a Global 5000(I think) left from there this afternoon.

Horatio

Thats a very interesting point.

However it doesn't hide the fact the place has been mismanaged. And with no change in ownership or management will continue to be thus. Any contracts with airlines should have been written properly, and with clauses on income etc. Bending over just to attract Ryanair when its not making you money is just vanity.

The runway will be 1200m long this time next year so its all academic anyway.

The airport should have been an asset for the town, and used by Lancashire/ Lakeland peoples. Not just idiots!!

Have you a link to back that up? - it's the end of BLK if correct.

take-off,

Post 203, links to the meeting held by SBA and PR.
Basically, PR wants the runway shortened because it will be easier to maintain. Regardless of any future hopes of commercial.

Reading that minutes of meeting, PR has no interest in developing Blackpool Airport, actually the opposite.

If you look at SBA meeting with BBC (blp council) they say there is no plans to shorten runway, they said the runway is in the green belt and it is BBs responsibility to maintain it.

Airviewer,

Thats fine, but surely BB can argue we are taking it back to green and not building on it, its actually the other way round, dont see BC arguing.

More sanctuary for the birds and wildlife

The place is a JOKE, just like Blackpool Football Club.
We all know what needs doing, but cant do anything about it

Citywing is still selling Blackpool flights from 1st April but still no announcement from the airport or Citywing. Four weeks to resolve whatever the issue is.

19 days until the first flight and still no announcement from either Citywing or the airport.

Cutting it a bit fine... if there's a problem, why did Citywing start selling the tickets in the first place?

Another problem at Blackpool
"A small plane has "overshot" the runway at Blackpool Airport.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the four people on board were unhurt in the incident, which happened at about 11:50 GMT."
