A nice read regarding the franchise agreement, but from the Flybe perspective: UK airline Flybe exploring opportunities with Dublin-based Stobart Air - Independent.ie

Southend Engineering BKS Maintenance : John MOODY

Does anyone know the resting place of John MOODY, Line Engineer for BKS?
He passed away on 3 July 1968 in the tragic Airspeed Ambassador crash at Heathrow Airport in G-AMAD of BKS Air Transport. All I know is that it was a church in the Southend area. If anyone can assist, I would appreciate it as I wish to pay my respects.

Sincerely
Gary Saunders

75 pax on the SEN-Prague flight today apparently. Seems an encouraging figure to me.

Please don't mention yield..... we all know.

Gary, have you looked at this website ?

BKS Air Transport Ltd

This is all about BKS history. Possibly you could make contact via this route with someone who can help you.

75 pax on the Prague sounds very encouraging at this early stage. It was very late out though; scheduled 06:30, actual time on the SEN website 08:45. This was actually more like 09:45 as I saw and listened to its departure. The 10:00 arrival from Cologne had to be held while Prague cleared the runway. Why does SEN insist on telling these porkies??

Can we surmise that CGN and REU are struggling since they've introduced a 'buy one flight, get one free' offer on these two routes? Let's be honest, they wouldn't do this sort of promotion if they were selling well would they.

Recent posts regarding the EBACE exhibition reminded me that early last year Stobart was seeking a FBO operator for SEN (Expressflight post 2276).

Has anyone heard anything since? I noticed that Stobart Executive Handling no longer can be found on the airport's website.

Hannah Lo Bao-Worsfold remains Head of Business Aviation Development at SEN and Stobart Executive Handling's website still appears to be active: Stobart Executive Handling |

A steady trickle of executive aircraft is still coming into SEN....... Dassault Falcon 7X night stopped and departed this morning. There is apparently going to be an important announcement soon concerning the airport's executive jet operations - whatever that means.

I don't think Hannah is still there in that role is she? As far as I know someone in SEN management is looking after the FBO part-time which is not encouraging.

I wonder if there may be an announcement at EBACE if the Business Travel News report proves correct which may put the FBO on a more substantial footing. They were in negotiation with a large international organisation a few months ago so maybe that is coming to fruition but if it only involves a couple of bays of the ex-Lasham hangar I really cannot see it making much of a market impact. I believe there was a scheme to build a new FBO on the site of the old freight shed and I really think it needs more than the current facility in the old passenger terminal. Time to either come up with a state of the art facility or otherwise keep muddling along as they are currently.

I'm sure you are right that CGN and REU are struggling, certainly my own recent researches showed them to likely be the poorest selling by route capacity of all 14 Flybe SEN routes. I really cannot see CGN working for SEN as a once daily and it won't even attract most of the Ford traffic as such.

SEN Observer

PRG was also late departing yesterday with a computer update problem so I suppose it's possible it was something similar today. It was certainly something that cropped up after the pax were loaded.

Does anyone know how Flybe's Budapest & Vienna services are doing?

I also think Prague & Milan will do well. Also, easyJet's new Murcia service seems to be doing well.

Very pleased to see that after my email to MXP they now refer to London-Southend on their website as opposed to just Southend.

Thought the departure time is the time off gate not airborne? Entirely possible they pushed and then had problems which delayed them taking off.

Expressflight, I'd be interested to know why you thought Reus would struggle. Clearly that may well be the case, but I'd have thought with the success of SEN as a gateway to the Med a route to an unserved destination servicing the large resort of Salou plus Sitges and the wider Costa Dorada would do quite well.

I was surprised when REU was announced because of it perhaps taking some pax from the BCN route, which has seen a drop in pax numbers in recent times. Maybe there just isn't the demand, and attempts to brand REU as Barcelona-South are perhaps not working?

Isn't Barcelona South just a somewhat unhelpful legacy of Ryanair using it for Barcelona before they started flying to the real Barcelona and slashing their Reus flights? The old Reus (Salou) or Reus (Costa Dorada) as used by Airtours, Thomson et al was surely more effective.

Airport Planner1

When REU was announced I thought it looked to have appeal and it is just my researches since seats went on sale that led me to believe this wasn't turning out to be the case.

Ryanair market REU as 'Barcelona Reus' while Jet2 call it 'Reus (Barcelona South)' and I wonder if that identifies it better for potential travellers. Maybe a lot of people just don't recognise 'Reus' as a destination. It's possible perhaps that it was a nod towards easyJet's BCN route that caused SEN to just omit the Barcelona reference in their marketing.

Reus airport is over 50 miles direct distance WSW from Barcelona city centre. . In terms of latitude it is south of Barcelona by only a few miles. Far more west than south. To me "Barcelona South" suggests a location offshore !

That name does sound like a hangover from earlier Ryan Air times. (as per Airport Planner 1 above) The airport refers to itself as plain Reus as far as I am aware. Costa Dorada could well be a better and more accurate marketing name. If SEN are dropping "Barcelona" from the name, then good. At this stage of its development it hardly needs to be accused of the kind of misleading information for which Ryan Air were notorious.

When negotiating the SEN route for Caen Airport back in 2012 I pressed for it to be marketed as 'Caen - Normandy' as I felt that this readily identified the location in people's minds. I think that Reus perhaps needs something like 'Reus - Costa Dorada', as you suggest, to make it more marketable.
