if they are still making money why would they ?
they currently have two aircraft based at IOM operating for BE don't they ?

Which means Stobart are on the back foot.
Flybe are building a base at LCY. "Hey that Stobart route works from Southend- why don't we try it from LCY. If it doesn't work- well if they are still there they can have it- if they've gone they could always come back".
I have to hand it to the Flybe team for "innovation". They chop and change and try- but it's been a good business model for Ryanair so why not.

equally just to be clear when NQY operated at SEN after U2 dropped it, the route was operated by BE "mainline" rather than the stobart franchise, think it operated most days BHX-NQY-SEN-NQY-BHX

Whichever way you look at it though, you would expect to be consulted by your 'partner' if they intended to operate a route which might be seen as competitive to one where you were already established. It's not as if LCY-RNS could be seen as essential to the expansion of their LCY network, seeing as they're operating it solely during the 'school holiday' season, so why risk creating ill feeling with your business partner.

Skywork Airlines
Bern was shown yesterday on the arrival/departure boards as cancelled. This morning it is being shown on Flightradar24 as operating but does not even appear on the arrivals/departure boards. Looks like it could be the end of this service? Hope not, but it doesn't look good.
I checked their website earlier this week and flights were bookable for 12, 19, 22, 26 & 29 November and on 10 days in December. I don't know why yesterday's flight was cancelled but all the above dates are still bookable this morning. I'm sure it's only a matter of time though before the SEN-BRN route ceases but that's hardly a surprise with Skywork from LCY now offering a double daily service.

LTNman
It was certainly described as Stobart being a 'franchise partner' in the period of my involvement but then no doubt Flybe described their arrangement with BOH as being a 'partnership' as well.

Well actions speak louder than words and it doesn't seem there is much of a partnership about the arrangements.
This might well explain many things that have been happening.

It might well do, LTNman. Stobart could be thought naive in their dealings with flyBE. Maybe Glyn Jones, with his experience at Luton, will be able to bring a more worldly wise approach to things at SEN......

5 year agreement or 5 year stitch up? Wonder if it is set in stone or can be broken? If it can be broken I don't think it will make any difference to Southend as Flybe seem to do as they please.

I think that most of us would agree that the SEN CAA Provisional Stats for October 2015 are jolly disappointing. We can only hope that 2016 brings better things.
But - on looking at this weeks Tuesday / Wednesday departures screen on the SEN website I did have to have a small smile when I thought back to the SAEN scare stories of a few years back when they were warning everyone about how busy the airport traffic would be. Those worries certainly seem to be somewhat overblown at the moment.

Seems like only yesterday that people were posting comments about Southend being the fastest growing airport in Europe which was a story picked from the local paper.

As I have said before percentage growth or in this case percentage drops have little meaning when passengers totals are so low. Even with no new routes or additional based aircraft 2016 will see the negative numbers disappear which will be celebrated here by some people that the worst is now over.
Southend's October figure shows a yearly passenger figure of 930,549. The short term aim of the airport must be to add 1 million to that total. Forget the fact that this would be more than a 100% increase but just think of it as an extra 1 million passengers. It might seem like a tall order but it isn't. In Stansted's case it would be just a 5% gain for those that are obsessed by percentages.

The Greater Anglia timetables effective from December 2015 have now been published. There is no change to the late / early services on the Southend Victoria line and the - seemingly never-ending - bus replacement from Shenfield to Liverpool Street on Sunday mornings appears yet again.
