Indeed it is good news, especially in the light of the recent upturn in pax figures on the route.

I am also pleased Caen will continue. It's a pleasant historical town, plus Bayeaux with the famous tapestry museum is only 15 miles west of there. I stayed 2 nights last year in Rennes, and once again the centre was great. I flew with Flybe from SEN. and both ways the load was more than 55. Rome is a beautiful city and will be a good addition. I am surprised by the attraction of Naples, voted the most dangerous city in Italy recently, but it's near to Pompeii.

People don't fly to NAP for Naples, they fly there for Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast which is incredibly popular. Flights I've used have also had a lot of Italians on board.

There is a significant first and second generation Italian community in South Essex/East Herts, many of them with family connections to Naples. A result of the emigration of many to work in the nurseries and glasshouses in Essex/Herts prevalent in mid 20th Century.

NAPLES & ROME from GATWICK
.NAPLES from STANSTED
NAPLES..POSSIBLY...ROME DEF, could work from SEN, with a 4th aircraft,EZY could always transfer the NAPLES flight from STN to SEN

Good news re CFR.

Have I missed something regarding Naples & Rome? I read the words attributed to Glyn Jones (thanks to tws123 for providing the link). All I saw was a hint to EZY and others that there was potential waiting to be tapped into. Well done to SEN if they are the first in using the data from smartphones - no matter how much I personally recoil at the thought.

But by far for me the most interesting part of the piece was: The Department of Transport has also proposed a mechanism that will allow travellers to dump their bags at a depot in advance and pick up boarding cards before making their own way to the airport at their leisure, or have suitcases collected from their homes.

Now, I would have thought a smart airport like SEN would do well to lead the way with such an idea, particularly as they would only have to work with EZY and Flybe /Stobart to trial the process.

LCY-RNS is 6x weekly during the summer months only, so not really orientated towards business users, unlike the SEN schedule.

Posted on the WizzAir Facebook page about SEN and they deleted it! Not even a a denial or thanks for the suggestion.

For better or worse Wizz has a love affair with LTN as the airport meets their requirements for flexibility. I can't see what Southend would offer them that LTN can't give them. Luton allegedly will gain capacity over the next two years although the customer experience might not improve but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

As much as they may 'love' Luton, like all airlines they will want to expand into other airports and new catchment areas. It remains to be seen whether SEN will be part of that expansion.

I think the fact that they deleted your post means that someone at Wizz does not agree with your logic. As the catchment area will overlap might be another reason why it might not happen in the short to medium term but who is to say that they won't try out one route in the future.

I think Wizz made their London area airport decision some time ago and they will stick with Luton. SEN is now a more attractive proposition with its increased stands and improved taxiways but I fear they've little chance in attracting Wizz. SEN will need to look elsewhere, I think. Maybe induce Adria Airways again?

Wizz tried Stansted and soon cancelled that daily flight. Gatwick would make far more sense for them as they use it already. If any additional slots there become available, I would suspect possibly further flights. Despite road access to Luton, it has a mass of coach and rail services liked by the E Europeans.

I think Southend's chances of attracting Wizzair depend to some extent on the level of free movement post Brexit. If the UK takes a permissive line for a few years post April 2019, Wizzair will likely see stronger demand for flights and Luton will reach its 18 million capacity sooner rather than later. Conversely if the UK takes a stricter approach, Wizzair may see a decline in demand.

Southend's hope of attracting Wizzair probably depends on Luton becoming substantially full and Wizzair being forced to find runway capacity at a London airport other than Luton

Wizz may have made their London area airport decision some time ago with Luton but they do now operate from London Gatwick albeit just the one route to Budapest.

Although I can't see Southend being added anytime soon, with the UK about to leave the EU Wizzair current traffic will more than likely decrease to a certain extent so I can't see them adding another London airport let alone Southend where as Luton totally fulfils there needs.

Buster makes a very valid point regarding onward travel from Luton. National Express coaches seem to come and go every couple of minutes. Pushing my way through the crowds at the bus station it is very clear that not many passengers are actually English.

It is a bit of a chicken and egg situation for Southend as what do you provide first, the coaches or the passengers to use the coach network. Southend's location does not help either as it is not a natural route for north and south coach travel.

Having had some horrible experiences at LTN in the past year, I decided to use EZY from SEN despite living north of LTN
As the flights were on a Saturday figured the M25 would be OK
What a great decision , Stobart may have issues running an airline but the airport is fantastic ! No queues , security staff who were friendly...car park £60 for a week and two mins from terminal.
And on return 12 mins from chocks on to walking out with my bags, they had as many border staff as LTN does
The airport is great and as , hopefully, more people get to experience it then the word will get out there
Well done STOBART

Thank you Mudcity for sharing your experience at SEN. I am sure 95% of people using the airport share your views, whilst an unfortunate few have experienced delays or cancellations, which I am sure is shared with other airports too globally.
