Am now confused. Are these flights operated by Flybe or Stobart? Are leasing some 175s from Flybe?

I wonder how many of these new routes will operate in the winter months too.

market announcement

On 5 December 2016, Stobart Group announced its decision to operate flights from London Southend Airport ("LSA") through Stobart Air's existing franchise arrangement with Flybe.

As a further update, the Group is pleased to announce that 12 new European routes are now confirmed, operating through the franchise arrangement with Flybe, from May 2017. Tickets for these new routes will be on sale from today, 22 December 2016. The new routes include Budapest, Milan and Venice. Further routes are expected to be added at a later date.

This takes the number of routes operating from LSA to 28 routes from Spring 2017.

Andrew Tinker, Chief Executive Officer of Stobart Group, said: "The confirmation of new routes from London Southend Airport today further builds on the strategic growth platform we have created in Stobart Group's Aviation Division. This is part of the next stage of our strategy to build new passenger routes at London Southend Airport, capitalising on the growing demand in the South East."

The routes will be operated initially by wet leased aircraft. I would doubt these will come from FlyBE themselves, as they have no airframes or crew available. In the longer term who knows, might be logical expansion for Stobart to get some jets but time will tell I guess

So Stobart wet leasing Flybe jets to franchise fly with no risk for FlyBe?

Wow - that's a good one.

I wonder if this could be a convenient way for BE to get the 195 off their books as well?

Interesting to think about how we got here. When Stobart were talking about merging with Cityjet to get this off the ground and talked to Flybe, did they just say "Hang on a minute we might be able to make you a better offer?"

How about a Flybe acquisition of Cityjet to utilise those Sukhoi's?!

SEN website

And still the SEN website is behind the times! No mention on the "new routes" section. Would have thought that they would have had this ready by the time the announcement was made.

Absolutely right to point that out. It's incredible news and they should be able to update their website a little smarter than they have. Still, a momentous day in the history of the airport after such a long period in the doldrums.

Aren't BEE still on the hook to take a few more 175's? (the rest of their order having been swopped with Republic for their Dashes).

Maybe this is a home for some of them?

Otherwise, aren't all the current BEE Embraers now in gainful employment?

He also mentions flights to Nantes, don't remember those.

Just heard a rumor from a contact in Hollywood that Tom Cruise has bought the rights to the SEN story. The project has a working title 'Plan B'
