I think the meteorological experts out there will confirm that, from an adverse weather event point of view, south-east Essex is a sensible place as any to build an airport in the UK, particularly if the R/W direction is as it is at SEN.
But that doesn't help the people trying to get away / home. I wonder how well the airport scores in assisting pax compared to others. I doubt whether they have many spare staff around to process overnight accommodation etc. I have only one experience of being stranded overnight - in JER, and it wasn't good.

It would be interesting to learn what happened to all the SEN pax who got stranded abroad yesterday how they get home. I know the bigger London airports had even bigger problems than SEN but as local Essex news we rarely hear if there was a rescue plan

Every airport closes for the odd day a year for weather, it's terrible for the passenger, and every crew will do all they can to get people to where they want to be, but at the end of the day this is not an issue specific to SEN, it happens everywhere. Yesterday for example, LPL was out of limits at times, and MAN was closed to all CAT II operators ...
It's the winter, unfortunately it happens ...

For me it depends on what the routes are. If they are mainly summer sun, a lot of people book just after Christmas so there is value in making them available for sale ASAP. See Jet2's STN announcement today.
Otherwise, I would be a bit surprised if the announcement does happen on 22nd because people's attention is elsewhere so the message wouldn't be as effective as if it were released on say 20th January. Again, see Jet2's STN announcement today - quite muted.

We're have to wait till the 22nd won't we but after all what's happened recently and with the general assumption on here that something will be announced I won't be holding my breath.

Certainly a shame about the way the whole Cityjet deal has gone but maybe it is for the better. Hoping the way forward with Flybe will be built from a more substainable base.
What I am hearing, there are some decent destinations and a couple I believe have not been mentioned before on this forum!

The tension builds! Chairman of Flybe, Simon Laffin said yesterday "We're not present predominately anywhere (in London) but City Airport - That's going to change."
Unfortunately he was talking about 40 flights per week they are commencing from LHR. But that may well have paled into insignificance by tomorrow.........
