at a cosmetic level??

I wasn't commenting on the financial performance of the Stobart Group (must admit it baffles me how they expect to get the reported £100m back), but on the perception of the airports performance.

I would guess that SEN is still way ahead of where anybody thought they'd be before EZY were announced. The idea that London's full and all you've got to do is put a board out to attract business seems a bit over played.

Depends how far back you want to look. In 1967 the figure was 692,685
How about the year before Stobart moved in? Nearer 1% of that figure?

To someone not familiar with the airport and it's recent history, everything would appear to be peachy.

I wonder how that nightly National Express coach is doing for those early morning departures?

Sea Air

Don't know whether I'm reading their site correctly but it now looks like Sea Air is threatening to start Munich flights next Wednesday, 29th June. Let's wait and see.

Re the National Express coach, I also wonder how it's doing. I only live 10/15 minutes walk from SEN but have no intention of trotting up there at either 05:00 or 23:30 to take a look. I somehow doubt that it is doing much but assume it will carry on as long as Stobart continues to subsidise it.

Is that an assumption that Stobart is subsidising the service or is it a fact?

What we need is a Southend spy to check out these sort of things.

National Express

It's an assumption; I don't think it would be operated by National Express without financial support. Bus companies don't seem to operate like that. When Southend council scrapped its subsidy some years back the bus companies soon cut the loss making services.

Regarding a SEN spy, who knows what might happen if I suddenly suffer a bad dose of insomnia.....,.,.??

Vlm airlines has filed for bankruptcy with immediate effect, it could be an opportunity for stobart air to operate for cityjet, or indeed relaunch the antwerp route from southend. Vlm had a wet lease deal with flybe which will now also be affected, and then add the possible cityjet/stobart air merger to the mix, there will be interesting times ahead

Nat Ex coaches

I thought that the best way to find out anything about the early/late coaches was to ask at the airport. I am now back home having done just that.

I only spoke with the lady on the enquiries desk but she did seem knowledgeable on the subject. It obviously varies from day to day but she seemed to think the coaches are doing quite well as they are convenient and the fare is only £10. When she has worked late shifts she has seen quite a few people heading for them. As far as she knows, they're "doing ok".

Sorry not to be able to be more specific.

Now you're talking. WX operating from SEN will be good but ONLY if they roster a proper scheduled service, no dicking about like half baked EIR delivered with the ATRs.

Movements at SEN are quiet lately.

I saw a recent media report which suggests that a Stobart Air and CityJet merge is getting nearer.

Under a planned deal, it's believed that CityJet would be the major partner in a merged group, with existing Stobart shareholders taking a minority holding.
If this happens and with CityJet being the major partner there could be an opportunity for Southend or it could loose what it has.

This move seems to be more about creating a second hub than benefiting Southend.

There's so much talk of flybe at Southend on this thread that when I looked at the flybe route map I was expecting to see so much more than a three short flights to secondary airports! It's not actually a schedule that makes or breaks an airport, is it?

The good news is that if a combined Stobart City Jet were to combine flights at LCY, Southend wouldn't actually have lost a lot!

Agreed.

Cityjet use hangar maintenance off taxiway Romeo off RWY 34/16 at EIDW.

I wonder will they potentially consider maintenance contracts at EGMC? Suppose depends on facilities, capabilities, cost, etc.

If the WX/STOB marriage vows exchanged, it may make sense to consolidate and extract synergy savings wherever you can to gain the margin expansion forecasts.

We are talking about five days next before it returns to normal ops from LCY on July 1. Probably the time is needed to bring DAT up to speed for LCY ops - I don't think they have operated from there in the past.

^^ I didn't say or intimate otherwise. The weblink says so. Interesting for people interested in Southend. Nothing more :-)

If Stobart Air and City jet merge with City jet being the dominant partner will it have any effect on the SEN airport ownership

The airport and the airline are two different businesses, so the airport (for now) will remain under Stobart's control.

Sea Air has now disappeared from the New Routes section of the SEN website. Looks like they've given up on them at last.
