SOUTHEND 5
The reason given by easyJet was that handling wasn't available at the arrival time of the delayed VCE-SEN flight. The original aircraft had gone tech and an A320 was flown in to operate SEN-VCE-SEN.

Well it happened again last night. Maybe there wasn't not enough staff willing to work or the airport willing to pay them
Pain in the R's I doubt you noticed but last nights Barcelona flight landed at Southend at 0318 this morning after a tech issue requiring a replacement aircraft to to flown to Barcelona. I said I would post when the next post 2am EZY arrival happens (as many have before). Hopefully this confirms to you that any diversions out for late running aircraft are made as dynamic operational decisions rather than the airports lack of H24 availability, and that your statement that EZY arrivals after 2am 'never happen' is simply not true!

I know someone that works at SEN and unfortunately people are so fed up with management and disillusioned with the place they simply don't want to help out anymore. From what i hear, the amount of staff that are rostered in is at the absolute min and skill sets not adequate for what is required - not the fault of the staff mind...Everyone works their socks off in that place and they don't get much credit for it. Not all is rosey from what it looks like. I only ever look at this forum but thought i would share my thoughts finally.

positioning flight. In this case a departure requires different skilled staff to those just dealing with an arrival, who on this occasion were not available.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that issues like this don't reflect anything but poorly on Southend, however the quote from me above was referencing a discussion where you seemed to have the wrong impression that the airport 'closed' at midnight, or any other time which you norminally made up, something which you have now conceded is simply not true, and has been demonstrated on several occasions in the past few months, sadly things appeared to have gone a little wrong on this occasion!

Don't think easyjet are allowed to take off before 6am even empty? Part of the council agreement allowing delayed aircraft in but once it has arrived it is no longer delayed and is classed as a re-positioning flight.

Actually the Section 106 agreement only prohibits scheduling any passenger aircraft for departure before 0600(?). Positioning or ad-hoc charter flights are subject to a monthly night quota.
Edit 0830 3rd May.
Checking the Agreement passenger flights can be scheduled for arrival/departure between 0630 and 2330 (with a quota limit between 2300 and 2330). In addition 120 'night flight movements' per month are allowed with delayed or diverted flights not counting towards the quota.

Regarding the use of a Stansted based A320 to operate the SEN-VCE flight on Sunday, if I was ops manager that day, I too would have sent the aircraft directly back into STN with the pax to save time and money!

SEA-AIR is dead. My reliable source in Malta confirms that because no financial bonding had been paid by Sea-Air to them, no B737 is available for use from SEN, and all three Boeings now have other work. I assume Southend Airport and the local newspaper will now be spreading the news so no more people are conned out of their money booking imaginary flights. Very sad but it was never going to happen. (Hey, EasyJet could give it a try!)

Sea Air
Totally justifies everything said here by you all. Can't really see that it's the airport's fault, however they would do well to take the flights off their website PDQ.

So the airport's fire service now fight fires in the surrounding area. All very well but what if the airport needed them in a hurry?
